Self soothing tips?

I truly don't want to compare my daughters...but good grief DD1 was much easier when it came to sleeping! Chat Icon

DD2 is a bit over 5 months and having a hard time settling into sleep lately. She refuses a pacifier, she kinda sucks her fingers but not in a soothing way. I'm not 100% comfortable with CIO but we've been trying our own modified version and it's working ok when she initially goes to bed. But when she wakes during the night...she cannot fall back asleep very well. We'll comfort her (rub her back, hum etc) but we try to not pick her up and rock her anymore. The ped said I shouldn't be nursing her EVERY time she wakes anymore either, which I agree with. I just wish she would find a way to settle herself.

I know she's still so young...we were just SOOOO spoiled by DD1 who started STTN by sucking her fingers at 2 months oldChat Icon .

Any advice? I'm trying to force "lovies" on her but she's just not into it. lol.

DD has the Aden and Anais (sp?) small muslin blankie that she loves. It has a satin edge, is small and she can breath through it when she covers her face Chat Icon yeah, I have that kid lol.
They sell them in 2-pakcs at BRU and on line. Might be worth a shot. She took to that long before any kind of stuffed animal type things.

Ugh, I would love to know some tips as well !! DD is 3 month and will STTN but never takes naps during the day. She is also going to bed by 10:30pm-11. There are points where she is screaming during the day and I know she is sooo tired but she fights it and will just not go to sleep. I move her to the crib, playmat, swing, etc and nothing will make her happy. I know shes not hungry and even if I give her 2 extra ounces in hopes that she will fall asleep...she wont! She also refuses a pacifier. I go crazy and I wish she would just nap Chat Icon
