Would you say something? **Updated**
My friend posted on Facebook a picture of her 2 year old in just a booster seat. The ones that only boost you from the bottom and have lose arm rests and shes strapped with a regular seat belt!! From the pictures on FB she looks like a big girl but she just turned 2 over the summer. She lives in the west coast so I don't know if their regulations are different but I couldn't help but cringe when I saw that pic. I know she was traveling because the title of the pic said "on our way too..."
We are friends, email each other here and there but not super close...Is it my place to say something? Should I non-nonchalantly post something on my FB about car seat safety?
Please Advise!
**Update** Thank you all for your advice...I commented on the picture saying "she is so cute, she is in a booster seat already?" and he commented saying "her height and weight are more than what the booster seat minimum is lol" and I just kept it at that...like I said she looks big in the pics so I will MYOB now lol.
Thank you all !!

Re: Would you say something?
ugh toughie.. We had a car seat check this weekend and I was absolutely floored by how many problems there were- the statistic says that 90% of car seats are installed correctly- and unfortunately everyone thinks that they are included in the 10%. I thought I was too until they checked my seat
I think I would say something. I'd have to- but I know its a slippery slope and she may get offended

Re: Would you say something?
I would say something along the lines of "I can't wait until my little one is old enough to be in a booster seat. The carseat buckles are such a pain sometimes". Or something like that. Maybe she will get the hint

Would you say something?
This just happened to me last week and I sent her a private message. I said how cute her DD looked, but was she in a booster? She said yes and that she had no choice due to a family issue. She didn't take it wrong and I think even if she was annoyed understood my concern. She just posted another pic yesterday of the same thing and I just let t go. You can't win them all and I did already point it out in private. That, IMHO, is the key...it was private and not on her wall. HTH!

Would you say something?
i've seen similar things on FB that make me cringe...people posting pics of them in NYC cabs with babies on lab (and stating as much), boosters too young, forward facing to soon, straps in the wrong position. I have always kept my mouth shut. I think these people usually know they are not following guidelines, and make that choice (except maybe for the straps that seemed positioned incorrectly). I'm not going to help anything by pointing it out--they usually already know, so would only be mad at me and not change their behavior. A close friend/relative, I might have a covnersation with, at least to make sure they are aware. If it was somebody distant, and I wasn't worried about hurting the relationship and genuinely didn't know if they were aware of the guidelines, I might post something like "when do you switch ___ to that kind of booster seat? my kid is ___, I didn't know he/she could be in a booster seat already?" Totally passive aggressive and not my typical style, but perhaps worth it in this case.

We had my ds2 forward face at 11 months for a camping trip about an hour north of the city bc it wad the only way we could get the seats to fit right in my husband's van. I took the worlds cutest picture of my two ds holding hands (they can't normally reach each other) but I didn't post it toFacebook bc I was sure someone would say something. So, I would not bother. She likely knows what she's doing.

I've seen things IRL and on FB that make me want to jump out of my skin. Sometimes I try to be passive aggressive depending on who it is (as had as that is)
I agree, Who in there right mind would think that's safe, and if they know its not WHY would they jeopardize their child's life like that!!
My DS turned 2 yesterday and I don't even want to turn him FF!!

Isn't there an exception for nyc taxis? Ever since out kids we always drive in so I haven't done it but I think it's allowed bc of low speeds

Re: Would you say something?
I voted no..
read a few.. agreed with my no...
Then realized who the HELL am I kidding. I'd so be posting "Hey she's so cute, just think 2more years and she can be one of those seats for real, right? Sorry, I'm just assuming this is a joke since no 2yr should be in a booster, but you know that right?"
hahaha and i wonder why I have so few friends.. Honestly is painful.

Yes there is no LAW on the books about cabs but I cannot imagine- in my wildest dreams- taking my DD in one. I fear for my own life every single time I get in a NYC cab...they drive like psychos down very busy streets... I can't imagine having DD in a cab, MUCH less unrestrained? How is that ok? I NEVER EVER understood that.

I am with the minority, but I cannot keep my mouth shut when i see a baby in danger. I would not be rude about it, but would just make a comment to make her think. At least you would feel better you said something.
I would say something like: OMG So cute! She is such a big girl! i didn't realize she was big enough for a booster seat.

Beacuse most people in NYC do not own cars and you just cannot walk everywhere or take the subway. ITs just part of life there and each parent makes their own informed decisions.

I'm curious what the statistics are on kids getting hurt. I wonder if it's something being ignored for convenience or really hasn't proven to be an issue.

Understood, but it seems a double standard to make it a law in passenger cars and not cabs. Cabs are JUST as unsafe, if not more so.

Re: Would you say something?
Maybe the kid was trying out someone else's booster?
If you ARE this person's friend: call her and chat. tell her that her kid is adorable. Then tell her that the pic of a kid too young in a booster worried you... and you just wanted to SAY something.
If you are her "friend"... meaning you follow her on facebook once in a blue moon... don't start facebook drama.

That's what I was thinking!! And people like this are the same people that will blame everyone but themselves if God forbid something ever happen to that child. I hate when people have an "it can't happen to me" attitude ESPECIALLY when it comes to the life of a child.
