Croup and staying home from school
My son came down with croup from Friday to Saturday and his fever finally broke this morning. Should I keep him home tomorrow or is it safe to send him to school? He obviously still has that awful cough and is very phlegmy. I think I will keep him home even if he's fever free for the 24 hours. What have you done when you child had croup?

Re: Croup and staying home from school
I might keep my DC one more day but it really depends. I know my ped say 24 hr full fever free no meds so if they have a fever Sunday morning they go back Tuesday. I would also watch bc sometime fever breaks but returns at night. If your DC is really phelmy and uncomfortable I might keep them home one more day. I will often wake DD and see how she is doing. If she seems okay I send her. If she doesn't I give her one more day.

Re: Croup and staying home from school
My DS had croup when he was 16 months so school was not an issue but I would keep your DS home tomorrow - an extra days rest might help. Hope he feels better soon

Re: Croup and staying home from school
I would keep him home. My son has gotten croup a few times and we normally keep him home and away from other kids for about 3-4 days. Croup can be very contagious.

Re: Croup and staying home from school
Thanks. He woke up fever free and I didn't give him any medicine this morning. He is in good spirits, energized and has an appetite, even though his voice is still raspy and the cough is just awful but much better since Saturday. I think he is going to be ok to go to school tomorrow. I kept him home since I wouldn't want him to get any other kids sick as well.
