Please help me calm down

DS is 6 months old and just fell asleep on his stomach for the first time. I always put him down on his back but he rolled to his tummy and passed out. He's sleeping very soundly but I'm so terrified of SIDS that I keep going in and checking every 5 minutes. Do I leave him as is? Ugh I can't calm down Chat Icon

Re: Please help me calm down

Once they are able to roll onto their bellies themselves, it's pretty hard to get them to stay on their backs.

My kids were belly sleepers from as early as 4wks. It was the only way they slept.

If he has good head control and can lift his head side to side then he should be fineChat Icon

Re: Please help me calm down

You can definitely leave him, once they can roll and have good head control it's perfectly safe.

If you are super paranoid, you can do things to lower your risks. Remove everything from the crib other than the fitted sheet and pacifiers if he uses them. Put a fan on in the room, keeping the air well circulated reduces the risk of SIDS. I'm guessing you don't have bumpers which is good. And they do make an Angel Care movement monitor which is good as long as your DS doesn't really move around when he sleeps.

:hugs: It will be okay!

My DS has been on his stomach since 4 months. It's fine.
