Vomit smell in car seats... help.. warning: kind of gross
DD got sick in the car earlier this week, threw up yogurt everywhere. We took out her carseat, removed and washed the cover, wiped down the straps a million times, and wiped down the plastic a million times.
2 problems -
1- the straps still smell faintly. keep wiping them? is there some magic cleaning thing I can use for this that I may not know about?
2- the puke managed to flow under the seat and through the strap holes and into the seat of my actual car. it's leatherette so it has those little pin-holes in it... and it's been a few days now (we haven't reinstalled carseat yet) but the smell has re-surfaced (the sun the past couple of days?). we had wiped the seat down throroughly but i imagine that it must have seeped into the seat. WTF can I do? Anyone ever deal wtih this? I feel like i'm on a seinfeld episode with a stinky car!
thanks and sorry for the nasty description !

Nature's Miracle, the stuff you spray on for pet odors, is the ONLY thing that got the stink out of my sofa. Maybe it will work for a car seat!

Soak the straps in hot water and rinse rinse rinse. Be careful using anything on them (soaps, febreeze, etc) because it could weaken the fibers and jeopardize the integrity of the straps in an accident.

Ha. That's exactly what I was afraid of but assumed I was being paranoid. Thanks!

I soaked the straps in hot water and Mr. Clean. Worked wonders.

You are rewriting my post from May! Down to the same thing the baby threw up...damn that yogurt!!! One person suggested cleaning the straps with Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo...the yellow shampoo, not the body wash. I had a sample bottle thank goodness. It worked the best-mind you I said the best because in the end, out of ALL the things I tried, you could still faintly smell the vomit, but the J & J did work better than anything else, other than time....eventually the smell will fade...eventually. Ugg!!! So sorry! My poor son had to sit in the seat and vomit for our 45 minute drive home. It was HORRIBLE!!! I feel your pain. I hope she feels better soon and the smell goes away soon.

Oh wow - sorry you went through the same thing!! Thanks for the tips. It seems to have been a fluke incident but since it's only been a few days, I REALLY am hoping this is not the start of her getting "carsick" all the time - I get carsick a lot if i'm not driving. I hope she doesn't have the same problem (esp because it will be a big inconvenience for the next 16 years, LOL).

Ugh, yogurt vom it THE WORST!!! I soaked the straps in boiling hot water and my free and clear detergent for a few hours 2x. Seems to do the trick. AS far as your car - I would get a foaming cleaner like Woolite Heavy Traffic and let that sit for 10 min or so before wiping it off.
