If your child gets OT please come in..
So, DS is 3.5 and has been getting OT since he was 2. What does your LO get OT for?
I feel like my 3 yr old still needs help with everything. Getting himself dressed and undressed and just simple tasks. He now gets OT in school. He goes to the local preschool where he gets extra help for kids with developmental delays. He's doing great. He gets speech every day and ot once a week. There sre only few kids in his class eho also gets ot as well He's Very smart, but it's the simple task of taking of his shoes and socks or putting them on. I don't know if it's also lazy or he just doesn't know how to use his muscles correctly.
I try working on it with him a well. How is LO doing with OT? Does it help?

I think the dressing is pure laziness. The older 2 didn't completely dress themselves until they were 5. As far as shoes, I think 4. Shoes with laces they still need help to put on at 6.5 and 5.
I never thought of those tasks as delays.

Ok... I know some is laziness and some is due to his developmental delays. Just wasnt sure if him having issues with dressing had to do with it. I think after some evalualtions he def needs OT bc there's only one other LO in the class who gets OT while the rest just get speech. He's been getting OT for about a year in a half now and it has helped with a lot.

Re: If your child gets OT please come in..
My DS is 3.5 and still doesn't put his velcro sneakers on himself. He will put on crocs or boots by himself though. He does dress himself, but will get super frustrated if his shirt is on backwards or he can't pull his pants up, so I usually end up helping him anyway.
My DS did get OT for a little while because he was delayed in fine motor skills which is related to a movement disorder he has. At 3 though, he was re-evaluated and didn't qualify for continuing services.
HTH. I feel like every kid is different, and honestly, even though I HATE saying stuff like this, I feel like girls generally do the dressing/shoes thing much earlier so maybe that is skewing your perception?

Thanks Totally seems like girls are always ahead. I hate comparing bc when we are alone he seems to do well, but out with kids his age (boys and girls) or a little younger they speak sooo much more than him. He's just starting 4 word sentences. Just delayed with the fine motor skills as well. I'll see how the rest of the school year goes ans have him reevaluated. Plus, I know he still needs it now. Get the extra help while I can and they do it in school.
