MMR with cold?
DD is 18 months and we're going for her check-up. I've managed to delay the MMR up till now but I think they're going to get pushy about giving it this visit. My practice doesn't believe in delayed vaxing. DD has a very mild cold, runny nose here and there, occasional cough when she wakes up. Do you think they'll still want to vaccinate her? Would you be comfortable with this?
Also, we have a big party in 2ish weeks and I cannot have DD being sick and cranky. Are the reactions usually gone by then if she's unlucky enough to have one? Not looking to start a debate! Thanks!

MMR with cold?
Per the MMR fact sheet there can be a reaction within 6-14 days. Most commonly fever or rash.

Re: MMR with cold?
I personally would not vaccinate with a cold-- particularly MMR which is both a combination shot AND a weakened live vaccine. If you don't feel comfortable with it, you can always come back in a few weeks for the shot.

Re: MMR with cold?
As far as the cold, they told me that as long as she was only mildly sick and no fever, etc- then they would still give the MMR.
In terms of reaction - DD got a fever exactly 7 days after the shot. It lasted about a day and a half. No other reaction. They said 7-10 days after the shot is most common for a reaction.

MMR with cold?
My Dr won't vaccinate if they are sick. He did give DS a vaccine when he was almost better from a cold but would not have done it near the beginning of the cold.
So never on the downswing only on the up. Otherwise they have to be healthy. And he only gave it to him cause it was the 2nd dose of the vaccine and DS did not have a reaction to the 1st dose.

Re: MMR with cold?
My DS did have a cold but no fever and they chose to vacinate.
He did seem off with a low grade fever and a rash that lasted a few days about 10 days after he was given the shot.
Not all children have side effects from the shot but you just never know if yours will. I would try to delay them again until after her cold dies down and you attend the party.

Re: MMR with cold?
I would not..I imagine the PED probably would if it was not running yellow...as for delaying if you are not comfortable with giving it to her then dont and if you get pressure from the peds office then ignore it or move to an office that respects your wishes. Good luck

MMR with cold?
Thanks everyone! I think we'll hold off for now. I hope we don't get billed for the extra apt when we go back for shots.
