Temp SAHM - What to do w an 18M old?

I recently was laid off from my job (yeah! - but that's another post) so I've been given the best job on the planet, SAHM.

My DS is 18M old and for the past 2 weeks we've been running errands, catching up on chores, etc. Now I've got some down time with him and I'm looking for ideas on what to do. We live in Bellmore.

Are there any reading groups, or story time around either at the library or B&N? Any things to do on rainy/cool days you'd suggest? The Disney channel is getting a workout lately and I hate having him in front of the TV all day. TIA.

Sunrise mall as a small play area for kids, good for a rainy day

Marjorie post and John burns parks have really nice play grounds (in massapequa)

A lot of moms go to le play cafe w their LO's

I'm pretty sure the Barnes and noble in massapequa has story time, look on the website for times

Have fun!

Definitely look into your local library for playgroups. They have been a lifesaver for us and a great way to make new friends.

Right now I do Bellmore library, MATTS gym for their mommy and me classs and Together Time at united Methodist with my 19 month old girl (I am also in Bellmore). Bellmore library has usually 1-2 characters a month come where you can sing and dance along.

I hit the park when it is nice out - I have one on my block. All American has mommy and me - unlimited for like $450ish but couldn't go more than 1-2 times so wasn't worth it for me. They do free trials too. Le Play is offering all kids of stuff. Seaford library is suppose to have good programs. I haven't done it with my daughter but did when my sons were younger. I also hit up Sunrise Mall when running errands to let her run around.

I live in Wantagh and have an 18 month old too....What we've done locally:

le Play cafe....They have new owners and are offering tons of affordable classes/have open play time. If you like them on facebook they often have coupon codes to get discounted open play time.

local libraries usually host Play Hooray groups during the day which are adorable and fun for this age group.

In the town of Bellmore there is a music class called Music Together. I've done the class twice and love it!

Little Gym in Merrick or Levittown is great for an active toddler

Eisenhower revamped their playground and it is awesome! We've gone a bunch this summer and my son LOVED it! Lots for little ones to do.

I am currently taking a class in Merrick called moms and tots. It's an adorable school style setting where the kids do song time, a craft and have playtime with kids their own ages. It's not cheap but it a nice weekly break.

Hope these help!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will look into the libraries and I did find the BN near Roosevelt Field has storytime on Tues and Wed at 10am. I might check that out next week. As far as the classes, we do Little Gym in Merrick on Saturday with my husband too. I'm not sure when I'm heading back to work so I don't want to commit to anything like that, but I appreciate all the suggestions. And I'll definitely try le Play Cafe. Thanks again!!!
