Age to start Trick or Treating
How old was your child when you first took them trick-or treating? Would it be silly to take a 9mt old since they don't eat candy?

Re: Age to start Trick or Treating
My kids went for the first time last year at ages 1.5 and 3. I think 9 mos is a little young unless you are going with other people.

Re: Age to start Trick or Treating
I don't think its silly at all... we took my 11 month old last year- he rang a couple neighbor's bells (who we know) and really just enjoyed seeing the other kids in their costumes

Re: Age to start Trick or Treating
AJ trick or treated in 2008 at 3m old!!! I mean really what ELSE could I do than show off that cute little kitty ?!
Next year we didn't (no where to go ) she was one and a fairy
At two she was a bigger fairy (tinkerbell) and she had a BLAST. LOVED it!
Three she was in Disney and did the TnT in the park.
Its not about EATING the candy. She ate none from the last two. Its about the fun of walking around and dressing up. Seeing others and learning how to say 'treat or treat' and meeting people. Seeing the cool house decor, giving out candy (she loves to do that) and just having a good time!

Age to start Trick or Treating
We took DS at 10 months to a few neighbors houses - he was so cute in his little costume, we wanted to show him off. It was a Sunday too so it made it a little easier - everyone was home.
We live in Rockland County and were affected by the huge storm last year so I wasn't planning on going but, DS (22 months) and I were outside handing out candy (since it was just as warm outside since we had no power) and DS decided that he wanted to go door to door as well so we did.

Age to start Trick or Treating
When DD was 19 months we went "trick or treating" at our parents and grandparents house. At 22 months we went to a local church that had games and candy. We loved it and plan to do that again.

Re: Age to start Trick or Treating
we took our son to a few houses his first Halloween, he was 5.5 months
even at 17.5 months (last year) or 29.5 months this year ... he didn't and won't really eat the candy. Parents still capitalize at this age

Re: Age to start Trick or Treating
My dd will be 10 months and we have family nearby, so we are driving to a couple of relatives houses to "trick or treat" so they can see her in costume. If there is time we may go to a couple of neighbors too.
I've had parents with babies trick or treat to my house and never thought twice about it.

Re: Age to start Trick or Treating
It depends on the definition of "Trick or Treating."
My oldest DD was about six weeks for her first Halloween; she wasn't in costume and we didn't go out.
She was 13 months for her 2nd Halloween and she was dressed as a pumpkin and we pushed her around the neighborhood in her stroller to look at all the kids and visit with her grandparents. We didn't ring bells.
So, I'd say age 2 was the first year we rang a couple of bells (along with her 5 month old sister who was also in costume) and said "Trick or Treat!"
Now, my DS was 5 DAYS old and he was out there on the scene his 1st Halloween--with his big sisters, of course.

I took my son for the first time last year at 2 years old. I'll be dressing up my 6 month old this year, but he'll be staying on the sidewalk with me.

Re: Age to start Trick or Treating
ds was 6 months old, we took him just on our block to show him off/meet the neighbors, then to grandparents house.
at 1 1/2 he started to get the hang of it.
2 1/2 we couldn't pull him away.

Same here! DD will be 6 months by then. We only plan on going to a few local houses in our neighborhood that are popular around Halloween time.

When they could walk on their own. After #1, I always took the baby in the stroller, but not up to get candy!
