Is it lame to hand out non-candy?

I was thinking of making halloween bags filled with pretzels, stickers, play doh and little toys.

Is that totally lame?

I would love it for my DD too, but you may want to have another option for the older kids- like teenagers

LOL you see my thread on all the non-candy options? The teens in my area LOVED pretzels and ironically they were also pretty happy with glow in the dark bracelets and necklaces...*shrug*

The teenagers that came to our house last year LOVED the play-doh we handed out. They were calling their friends to come to our house to get some. Chat Icon The little kids wanted the candy that we gave out.

So, yes, I think it's ok.

I don't think it's lame at all based on what you're thinking of doing instead. Also, I wouldn't worry about the teens either. If they can still have fun trick or treating they'll figure out how to have fun with stickers and play doh. As a high school teacher, trust me, they'll enjoy that stuff!

As long as the food is in its sealed original package I think that's cute. As other posters mentioned though, we get a good number of older kids/teens that would not be thrilled with the non-food items. I think any age could enjoy pretzels or popcorn though.

We usually give out play-doh which even the teens like. My DS has multiple food allergies and I refuse to buy anything that he can't use/eat himself.
