Big family vacations
How often do you go and where have you gone?
We went to Disney once ( over a year ago) and have a trip to Bahamas at the end of the year. Because of the expense, we won't be going on another trip for a while

Re: Big family vacations
I try to go 'out' at least once a year.
2003 Pittsburg 2004 Disney (honeymoon) & Savannah, GA 2005 Disney (in June) 2006 Nashville 2007 Puerto Rico 2008 Vegas 2009 Move to Texas (which cancelled my trip to Mackinac Island I had rented a house!) 2010 Hawaii 2011 Disney 2012 New York 2013 New Orleans or Disney or Mackinac? 2014 one of the two above not made LOL
I may be poor but life isn't going to depress me. If I don't travel I get depressed and feel like the world is coming down on my shoulders. I travel as therapy. I come back with renewed energy. Makes me FEEL good. I also spend nearly 9m a year saving 'for the next trip'.

Re: Big family vacations
We actually don't do big family vacations.
We go places that are in driving distance and stay overnight 1-2 nights.
The last 2 years we went to Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster. We've also been to Sesame and Philly with DS.
In a few years, we'll opt for Hershey and Ocean City, MD. I'm sure we'll hit up Great Wolf Lodge at some point too.
I don't foresee us staying for a week anywhere in the upcoming years either.

Re: Big family vacations
We go when we can afford it, or have enough time to save up for a trip. I'd say maybe every other year on average.

Re: Big family vacations
This past summer my in-laws rented a time share in Upstate NY so we went there for a week. We also took a 5 day trip to dutch wonderland/Lancaster/Hershey Park as a family of 4 trip.
In the past we have gone on big family cruises to Bermuda and the Bahamas with between 10-13 people.
While I would love to go to Europe, right now there are riots so I don't feel as if it is the time to go. I would also like for my kids to remember the trip, so we plan on waiting until they are a little older.
I love traveling. We try to take one big trip a year and one or two weekend trips as well. However, with the prices for air fair traveling is going to be $$$$.

Big family vacations
DS is only 17 months but so far we have been to Cali and Maine, for one week each, and we did one night in Mystic. For 2013 we have a huge family trip to Disney planned for June and we will book something for just the 4 of us for late August. I can see us doing one big week long vacation a year, in the summer, and then doing 2-3 smaller trips (2-3 nights) throughout the year.

Re: Big family vacations
We try to do 1-2 per year. Usually a winter vacation and a summer vacation...this year was Singer Island, FL in the early spring and Ocean City, MD in the summer....next year we are going to Disney in August and we'll probably ski a few long weekends instead of one week long vacation.
