Beginning dentist visits?

At what age do you start bringing your DC to the dentist.

DD is 2.5; at what age should I start bringing her?

She's a screamer when we go to the doctor, so i'm not sure she'll actually be able to handle the dentist....any thoughts??

Re: Beginning dentist visits?

DD just turned three and has her first dentist visit today.

I wanted to edit my post. The dentist experience went really well. They gave DD sun glasses so the bright light would not bother her eyes. They had the TV set to kids shows. I held her in my lap. She let the dentist see her teeth, but did not want to do so at first. I then asked her if he could brush her teeth, which she said yes to. He had different flavors of toothpaste (bubble gum, cookie dough, and chocolate). She chose chocolate and let him brush her teeth. She was excited to sip water and spit into the bowl like a big girl. She was thrilled with the prize box and new tooth brush too.

Re: Beginning dentist visits?

We started taking our DD at age 2 and she goes every year for a check up. It was easy for her to see the dentist though because my uncle is our dentist so when we were in his office she was comfortable since she of course knows him well. Chat Icon

Re: Beginning dentist visits?

We took DS sometime between 2.5 and 3. At the first 2 visits, the dentist basically checked his teeth and just talked about how to properly care for them. He just had his first real cleaning at 3.5 and he did great.

Beginning dentist visits?

DS has is first visit the day after his 2nd bday in 2 weeks. I have been preparing by counting his teeth, having him say "Ahhhh" when I look in his mouth, and by making sure we brush at least 1-2x a day. I am bringing him to the same pediatric dentist that my DD goes to so he already familiar with the office.

Beginning dentist visits?

I made an appointment when DS was 3, and when we got there the dentist told me that he sees children at 4. Told me unless there are any issues, keep the teeth brushed, candy free (as much as I can) and he'll see DC at 4.
