Just curious, am I just old-fashioned...

eh, I wouldn't do it and would probably give a second look to anyone other than an infant wearing pj's, but that is just me. Obvi when a kid is sick I get it, but I still always dress my dd.

I honestly can't believe anyone cares.

Today I took my 14 mo. old into the deli with me...in pajamas. If people find that horrifying, they can suck it!

Totally. I don't do it, but if I see other kids in PJs I'm actually jealous that they look so comfy!

Pajamas are not to be work out of the house. And I SMH when I see adults wearing them. I don't get it

ITA. Unless it is the middle of the night and you need to run out for a bottle of emergency pepto or something.... DS went to the doctor once in his PJ's, he was so sick and they were squeezing us in early we had to rush. He was confused, kept asking for clothes!

As the mom of a 2yo who refused to wear anything but a pj shirt to the store the other day, I get it. Lol. It just wasn't worth the fight.

It's a trend. People have done sillier. Remember the backward pants trend? The pants hanging off butt thing? Overalls trend (with one shoulder off), tweety bird shirt trend? leotard trend? Just now... Skinny neon pants?

I don't see anything wrong with the pajama/jumpsuit thing going on now... Or really for the last year or two, especially with the teenagers: could be sillier.

As for babies wearing pajamas. They are actually sleep n plays and my kids both lived in them and one pieces til I couldn't get them in their size. Very practical and cute. But, I think that's a whole other topic.

Re: Just curious, am I just old-fashioned...

I don't think its a big deal at all. Especially for kids just running out to a party store..a food store...doctor's, walmart, big deal. especially if its flannel pants. it is pants, afterall. I wouldn't go out in a nightgown however. When I was in college pajama pants wearing out to class, to eat etc was 'normal' for my group. And super comfy. I don't do it now (but not that I won't, I am just inbetween sizes still since pregnancy) but I do live in sweats. I am working more than full time plus have a baby at home. I am lucky I even remember shoes when I run out to the store.

Re: Just curious, am I just old-fashioned...

My kids have probably walked to the deli with me in pajamas, but they don't really wear them out and about. But I wouldn't care if they did, they just never pushed for it. My older son once went to the zoo in sweltering heat in shorts, a tee shirt, and camo rain boots. It's what he wanted and he was wearing clothes. I didn't care what anyone else thought.

Re: Just curious, am I just old-fashioned...

When my DD was a baby and still in the infant seat she use to wear little sleepers and feetie pj's all the time. To me, it was the easiest and most comfortable thing for a little baby to wear and I wasn't about to dress her all up to just sit in her infant seat and run errands. However, once she was out of the infant seat she always wore clothes out. Nothing fancy (jeans, leggings, shirt, etc) but I didn't take her out in "pj's" anymore.

My DD is 4 now and I don't take her anywhere in her pj's. This is just me but I think wearing pj's out of the house (adults, teens, or kids) is just a little sloppy looking and I also don't like the idea of my DD wearing her pj's out and about and then getting into her clean bed with them. Yuck. Even if she is sick and I have to run to the ped I throw a pair of comfy leggings and a shirt on her.

To each his own, I don't really care what others do, but for me I like DD to be dressed in clothes when we head out. Chat Icon

I totally admit to taking DD (22 months) out in her PJs if we're running an early errand. But I'm 7 months pg with #2 and I'll use that as my excuse. At 5... dress your child.

Ehhh I don't see the big deal. You never know the situation. If DS doesn't feel good, I'm not forcing him out his pj's to go to the Dr's. I want him comfortable, just like I like to be when I am sick.

DH went away this weekend, and I had back to back parties to take DS too.

He was off his nap schedule and I needed to run to get cards for the parties the next day.

I changed him into his pj's from the party we were leaving before we went to Walgreens.

That way when I got home - straight into bed. I didn't want to add to the crankiness at that point.

I pick my battles as well but I'm not fighting an over tired toddler - he gets to wear his pj's to the store.

What's the big deal? Pajamas serve the same purpose as regular clothes. It isn't like the kid is going to a job interview.

I have to agree. I don't see the big deal and I wouldn't look twice if it was a kid.

I do think it looks stupid on teens and adults though.

When I was away at college we all wore pajama bottoms to class. Rolled out of bed, grabbed your books and left. I probably wouldn't do it now, but if I saw someone out I'd probably be jealous of how comfy they looked.

Aren't those flannel pants that look like pajamas back in style? My son's school sells them with the school name on them. I don't care what other people wear. I used to laugh when I saw kids in costumes when it wasn't Halloween until my kid did it.

I agree, nor is it worth the effort to judge anyone on their pjs. If anything I'm jealous that they are so comfy.

The other reason I would never do it is b/c pajamas are for bed only. If I ever allowed my child to wear them out (which I would never), they would definitely not be allowed to sleep in them at night. I never let my DD sleep in clothes she has worn outside during the day. That skeeves me personally. I like to have fresh clean clothes when I get into my nice clean bed.

I don't understand how hard it is to throw on a pair of sweats or jeans or shorts when it is warmer out for anyone.

Pajamas, to me, are for sleeping only. I think it all comes down to laziness and not wanting to fight with your kids about changing. To me, this is a battle I will pick so they won't be adults running to 7-11 in their pajamas too.

I have my own weird issues about wearing PJs outside. DS has never once worn PJs outside in his entire 26 months of life lol. I just feel like unless we get dressed we aren't really starting the day.

Even if we are up all night and going to the walkin hours at the ped, I get him dressed. I know it's totally weird. But everyone has their 'thing'.

I agree with this, that's just me. We get dressed for the day.

Maybe that little boy threw a fit and wanted to wear his PJs and Crocs to the store lol

So other mothers are "lazy" if it is a battle they choose not to pick? Maybe it wasn't a battle to begin with, but they just let it be because to them it is not a big deal?

Ditto! I always take my 12 mo. old out in her pj's...I just want her to be comfy and warm.

OMG! I actually read this as your 14 Year Old and 12 Year Old. LOL. I was thinking, "Isn't it your goal as a parent to make your teenager's life miserable, and not care if they are 'comfy and warm'?? Chat Icon Chat Icon

IMO, babies, especially those who can not walk or talk, get a free-pass in the no-pajamas-outside rule.

For a 5-yo, I would think it was one of those "pick your battles" moments, although I'd try to get my son to wear regular clothes outside.
