Ds was almost 1 yo and he was playing with his toys. It hit me out of left field, this kid needs a playmate! 3 weeks later we were expecting # 2Chat Icon

How did you know you were ready for #2?

My kids are 19 months apart and I love it. Don't get me wrong it's tough but I love the fact that my DD has a sister close in age. I always wanted my kids close. I guess because there was a huge age gap between me and my sister that I didn't want that with my kids. I have 2 and I am already thinking of my third. The love just grows and grows with each kid!

Re: How did you know you were ready for #2?

I was getting the itch for #2 when DD was 4 months old lol. Realistically though, I wanted about 2 years (give or take) apart. DH was ready for #2 whenever, his theory is not keep returning to the baby phase once they're out of it (which I really don't agree with but that's his thing). We're expecting #2 and DD will be 22 months when this baby arrives.

I think it's a great age gap and I don't feel guilty about DD getting a sibling AT ALL! I grew up with my only sibling (brother) almost 7 years younger than me. From as early as I could remember, I was always asking my parents for siblings, I hated being an only child (up till he was born that is) and I do still kinda wish I had a sibling closer in age to "grow up" with. I love my brother and we have a great relationship but I always felt more on the parent side than sibling side (I babysat him a lot growing up and we didn't really "play together", although we got along great).

I love that DD will have a playmate and friend close to her age to experience things with. I hope we can add a third 2-3 years after #2 arrives, but that's another topic. Chat Icon

When ds #1 turned about 1 1/2 we knew that we wanted to start trying. We knew that it might take some time & we wanted to try & have the kids around 3 years apart so it made sense for us to start trying then. We had ds #2 when our first was 2 years & 7 months old & so far I think the age difference is perfect Chat Icon

We waited 5 years. I was just not ready for another one. I am glad i did it that way because DD#1 is in kindergarten all day and it gives me time to bond with DD#2

DS is 2 months old and we have already discussed it. We are going to wait until Spring and start then. I kinda worry that I won't be able to give him enough of the one on one time he deserves w/ us but we want to have 3 kids and we are in our mid thirtys so, time isn't really on our side.

Good luck!

Re: How did you know you were ready for #2?

my DSs are 3y3m apart. I wanted them 3-4y apart as well. At 18m I was ready to have another but DH wasnt and I was enjoying my time with just DS so we waited. We decided we wanted to create memories with just 1 child first, and enjoy our time as a family of 3, so we went to Disney, took ds to various things (thomas live, the circus etc) when he was about 2.5yo, DH was like you know....2 months later we were preggo.

It was a great decision, I love the age gap. First I loved that DS was a real active part of the pregnancy, excited about it, telling everyone about "his new baby" etc It made the pregnancy even more special for me. Also he still (17m later) recounts the experience of meeting his brother for the first time, feeding him etc. Also he was independent so he didnt need/want my 100% attention and understood teh concept of having to share me with his brother's needs. Finally my 2nd DS is SUPER active and needs alot of attention to now destroy my house or break his arms (LOL) so now that DS is in K full time I dont feel so bad because I have alot of time to spend 1 on 1 with DS2 which I didnt have before because DS2 had to go with the flow as we went to soccer, swim, nursery school etc. Now I get to do my mommy & mes with DS2 and spoil him the way my first DS got.

GL! It will be perfect no matter when you have #2

Re: How did you know you were ready for #2?

In the hospital i told DH i was ready for #2. That was after 48 hours of labor and an emergency C.
I wanted mine close together. There is 15 months between me an my sister and 2 years between all the rest of the family. (7 total). It is amazing the bond we all have and how close we all are. I want the same for my kids. I also see how much DS loves other kids. He is 6 months now and will be 13 months when DC2 comes along.
I cant wait to see them grow up together. I might leave a year before trying for #3 though. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How did you know you were ready for #2?

DS is 7 months, but I know I am not ready now for another. I would like to wait another 3 years or so. I would like my DS in school by the time we have a second. Plus my father watches DS now and there is no way he could take care of 2 children. He is getting older. My mom plans to retire in about 3 years so she will be around then to help, so I think waiting 3 years is good for me.

Re: How did you know you were ready for #2?

I wasn't sure that I was ready but I figured between 2-3 years was a good gap between my 2 kids. I started trying for #2 when DS was 16 months. They are 28 months apart.

I didn't want too many years between kids, but I didn't want to have 2 under 2 either. My thinking is that every kid should be allowed to be the baby for a few years and get their parents full attention and doting.

My boys are 2 and 4 now. They are really best friends so that age gap works well here.

DD is 4 months and I've had the itch for 3 months.

I recently saw a newborn in BBB - she must have been 3-5 weeks. She hit me in the gut. Chat Icon

Re: How did you know you were ready for #2?

My twins are 13 months and I am 4 months pregnant with numero 3. Although NOT planned AT ALL, I'm glad it happened this way. I like that they are close, I like that I am DONEChat Icon No more questioning and wondering and planning the next one. I like that they will all be off to school around the same time and I will have some ME time back. I prefer them all to be doing the same things at the same time, believe it or not. I find it easier. When we go out and do activities, we are not splitting up, bc they are all at the same stage. I see a lot of benefits in having them close together. Well, if I don't go totally nuts first Chat Icon Chat Icon

Plus I am old, and needed to chop chop !

But to answer your question, I knew after they started sleeping through the night I wanted one more.

How did you know you were ready for #2?

My DD is 18 months and some days I am ready for #2 and some days I'm not. I love the time I spend with DD and I know that will change with #2...not that it will be a bad change, just a different change. My DH is ready and has been ready. We decided that we are going to start TTC because I feel my age creeping up on me and I would like to have #2 by the time I turn 35 (which is next year).
