Belly button bleeding after the cord fell off anyone have experience ?

My 2w old DS's cord fell off while at the PED's office on Thu evening . The dr cauterized it with silver nitrate and said it's fine, and that I can give him a bath. But on Friday and today I noticed small amount of bleeding. I have been cleaning it with alcohol and just put gauze on it for a bit, but wondering if anyone has any experience with this and what you did if anything? How long did it last?
Thanks

The same thing happened with my DD. the doctor played with it and then later that day it completely fell off and was bleeding. Initually I was cleaning it and putting ointment on it but the bleeding continued so I just left it alone- didn't touch it, didn't put anything on it and didn't give her real bathes or wash it too hard for a week and then it was fine and all healed. Just leave it alone for a little while. I think it's because it came off too soon is what caused the bleeding.

The idiot ped we took DS took ripped it off too soon (his 2 wk appt). It bled for. Few day after. I just kept wiping it with an alcohol swab once or twice a day. More annoying than anything since it got all over his clothes every day.

This happened with my son. My MIL is a retired nurse, and she said to put neosporin and a bandaid on it. We did that for about 2 days and then it was fine (it had already been bleeding for 2 or 3 days before we did this).

my ds belly button fell off at 5 days, and continued to have pieces fall off for the following week +. It bled but we were told to leave it alone. Eventually it stopped on its own. (within 2 or 3 days of teh last piece falling off). If the bleeding is excessive, or any part worries you, call your pediatrician.

oh jo I didn't give him a bath yet. The ped said it's ok , but once I saw how it looked the next day I decided to wait, plan to wait on bath time another few days, want to make sure it's healed first.

Thanks everyone, no not too much bleeding, just a bit of blood around the area . The gauze helped a bit. The ped has Sun hrs so I will bring him in tomorrow or call them and see what they say. Hope it heals soon, can't stand looking at it , feel like it hurts him

I agree. The doctor needed to cauterize DS2's belly button twice.
