what is the 12 month bloodwork all about?
My ds is 10 months. I read a few posts about the 12 month bloodwork and how some people want to delay it. What is the bloodwork they have done and why is there controversy over it? My Dr didn't mention anything about it at the 9 month visit and id like to have some idea before his 12 month check up. Thanks!!

They check for lead, low iron, and numerous other things... My friends son was severely anemic and had to go on medication. They never would have known if he didn't have the blood work done. IMO it is really important since they can't tell you if they don't feel right..

Some doctors have the capability to do this in the office, but others you must go to an outside lab. Most of the "controversy" you hear about the blood work relates to the blood draw, so I would definitely do your research and find a good place.

For DS it was a prick on the finger and one on he heel. H didn't flinch. The shot, that was another story lol!

Mine didn't ask us to do it until her 15 month checkup, and we need to do it sometime before her 18 month visit. I would ask your dr at your next visit.

We did it at my DD's 12 month and it was just a finger prick right in the ped's office.

Agreed! My DD had slightly low iron, so the dr. gave her a prescription for vitamins with iron. The blood test was a finger prick done at the doctor's office...no big deal at all and I'm glad we got it done.
