baby batting at his ear - what could this mean?
My 10 month old ds has started batting at his ear (sort of like when a dog scratches his ear kinda look). Never done this before but whines or gets upset while he's doing it. Is this a sign of teething or could it be an ear infection? He has 8 teeth and has never done this and has never had an ear infection before. Anyone else's lo do this?
Eta: he woke up with a bad cold today....sneezing, coughing, runny nose. His first cold. Could they be related?

Could be the start of ear infection. DD always gets a fever with ear infections. Does he feel warm? Acting mushy? I'd recommend taking his temp to see

Could be either teething or an ear infection. DD does that sometimes when she's cutting a tooth, but never get upset.
If he seems in pain or "off", it can't hurt to call the ped. Hope he feels better soon

DS did that when he was teething. Took him to Ped b/c i was worried it was an ear infection, but no infection! Any other signs of teething?
ETA: i would take the baby to Ped just in case, doesn't hurt to check.

Teething or ear infection. I took my DD to the dr twice for doing this because they wanted to check for an ear infection, but it was teething both times.

If this is in correlation with the cold, then yes, I would call the ped and have him checked for an ear infection. How's he sleeping? The only sign DS had a double ear infection was minor cold symptoms (little coughing, little stuffy/runny nose), and he COULD NOT SLEEP AT NIIGHT. It was terrible. Every time he laid down he would just cry and scream, but would be just whiny and whimpery when he was held upright and would eventually pass out from sheer exhaustion. He is such a good sleeper too and you could see it was killing him. Good news is it wasn't anything some Mortin and antibiotics couldn't fix.
