Potty training boys...
DS goes and sits on his potty seat when we are home and I keep his pants off. When I try underwear he pees in them every time so I got pull ups b.c I can't keep changing him. Then he pees in his pull ups. Only time he does well is no pants.i obviously can't keep the boy pants less when we go out or with company. Been this about a week now. Can't keep him home all week plus he goes to preschool.
Any other advise?
Also, he sits better on the potty, but what do you do when you are out? Sit him on the toilet or hold him up?
Thanks

Re: Potty training boys...
It's not what you want to hear, but I really don't think he is ready. It isn't easy to potty train, but he isn't grasping it. I would wait a few months and then go back and see how he does.
If you want to continue, then you need to keep in him underwear and forget the pull ups. I would also be consistent on what you put on him. He could be getting confused because he is nude, then in underwear and then in a pull up. The pull up is a glorified diaper. He knows that if he has it on he can pee in it and it doesn't bother him. At night, I would put underwear and then a pull up on top that way he feels the wetness but it doesn't leak though.
As far as standing or sitting. He was sitting until he was tall enough to stand for a regular toilet. When we went out I bought a folding seat cover for him and would put that on.
GL...once he is PT life will be a lot easier.

Potty training boys...
When DS sat at home, he sat when we go out. He stands at home now so he stands out, unless he needs to do "code brown". Is preschool willing to work with you? How do they handle the training?

Re: Potty training boys...
Honestly sounds like he isn't ready. DS did the same thing about 2 months ago, peed everytime. (He has been pooping in the potty for almost a year, but pee was much harder.) Over Labor Day weekend we gave it another try and it just clicked.
We actually bought another potty seat (the one that fits on the potty) that we carry around in our diaper bag. It's big, but he won't go otherwise.

Re: Potty training boys...
Sounds like he's not ready yet. I would just continue to let him go on the potty when he can...reward like crazy when he does, but dont stress about it or add any pressure. I learned the hard way, but they do it on their own time...its a milestone just like walking and talking. When it clicks it clicks. DS was peeing on the potty inconsistently for months after he turned 2. He was really interested and loved the attention, but he didnt get it or recognize the sensation. He had to be brought to the potty every 15 min to make, couldnt hold it, and didnt care if he was wet or dirty. One day I was getting him ready for bath (he was about 2.5) and he was running around naked. He started having an accident, stopped himself, and ran to me and told me he had to sit on the potty. Diapers were history ever since. When he is ready, it will click and you wont ever look back
