Don't want to steal your thread, but did you guys hear about the possibility of the ecology site being closed altogether? The new proposed budget has this and some other services totally cut.

According to Lesko, non-residents are the only ones using the ecology center and the reason he wants to shut it down.
My DD is finally at the age to enjoy it and now it may no longer be there for her. It sux!

seriously breaks my heart. there is not much to do in this area for children that does not cost an arm and a leg. i would even be willing to pay a small fee. so instead we will just have more closed down buildings rotting and decaying on long island. great idea! not

Since there is no one asking for ID to even see where the people are coming from, how would he know this? He wouldn't. I think it's just another empty threat from the Town of Crookhaven! Maybe they shouldn't have built that huge, absolutely not needed, brand new building to house the Parks & Rec. employees!
And if they shut down anything it should be the nasty Centereach Pool! We went over the Summer and it was just so disgusting in the bathroom, the kiddie pool was drained and cracked, the paid staff for the neighboring Town of Brookhaven day Camp were on their phones texting the entire time the kids were in the pool, their policies are atrocious, and the lifeguards are pretty rude. And don't get me started on their lack of programs for kids with special needs between the ages of 11 and 17. There are NONE.
Sorry to hijack your thread . This town just makes me mad sometimes!

Re: FYI- gardening class at Ecology Site
Every year they threaten to shut it down and every year it gets saved at the 11th hour. I don't know why they use it as such as political tool, they has to be a TON of other ways to save $$$$.
I equate it to the school districts threatening to move to half-day K, 9 times out of 10 they always find the $$!

Also on the list to cut were adult day hab and respite services which equally upset me.
