Breast feeding and storage question
Just started nursing and it's going great. I am feed dd every 3 hours. Would love to start freezing some milk. When do you pump?

Re: Breast feeding and storage question
You can pump whenever. It's supply and demand, so you can pump and then nurse. Your baby will still get milk.
I used to pump in the morning (or try to!) I'd get a lot then. I'd pump after my first nursing session or nurse her one side and pump the other.
Try to see when you make the most milk or when it's a good time for you. There really is no perfect time to pump.
Kellymom.com has a lot of helpful information on BFing and pumping/freezing etc

Breast feeding and storage question
I always do the best a half hour after DD finishes her first feeding of the day.

Re: Breast feeding and storage question
I just read your other post about feeding your dd one side per session. I also fed one side and would pump the other at the same time. That's how I built my frozen supply in the beginning.
I didn't do this every time since sometimes I would want to just cuddle with the baby. even doing this one or 2 times a day can give you a great start on building a great stock of bm. And from my experience, I get more milk from the pumping side when baby is on the other boob than if I was just pumping without baby. I don't know if she helps to get a better letdown or what.
also, don't store the bm in the door of the freezer! didn't learn this until a bit later.

Re: Breast feeding and storage question
I would wait 3-4 weeks before pumping because pumping too early can create an oversupply. I started pumping at 4 weeks. I pump once per day after the first morning feeding.

I could have written this myself. In the beginning I also pumped one side while nursing on the other and I too saw better results when doing that. I did it 1-2x a day when I was home on leave. Now that I'm back at work I don't bother pumping at home...
