If your dc's godparents aren't already their aunt and uncle what will/does your dc call them?

First name?

or Aunt/Uncle first name?

Godparents who aren't already aunt/uncle

We plan on asking my BFF to be the godmother for baby # 2. DS already calls her "Auntie Lauren", and that is what this baby will call her too. Well, DS is 15 months so he doesn't call her anything yet but you know what I mean lol.

shameless bump....

dh has a BFF, but we haven't had our son call him Uncle.

There techincally is one aunt(my sister) but we have nothing to do with her. I kinda want dd godmother to be called Aunt so she has one, but then does ds also call her Aunt too?

We try to use aunt/uncle but DS tends to ignore that title when addressing people.

DD's godmother is "aunt" but her god father is just "first name" no specific reason why, its just the way it worked out. DS calls her "aunt" too, as will DC#3

Ann's Godmother is her cousin (she's DH niece/Goddaughter who is in her late 20's) so she calls her by her name!

I'll add though that I am not a fan of using Aunt/Uncle for anyone who is not.

dh isn't big on it either for regular friends, but people don't really call out godmother, thats why I was wondering what the norm was.

Re: Godparents who aren't already aunt/uncle

I have 2 god children and they both call me Aunt even though I'm not. They are my cousins children and she is more of a sister to me so it is only fitting. They also call DH Uncle. My baby will also call my cousin Aunt and she will be the godmother.

I think it is all personal preference and how close you are with the person who is the godparent.

our DD's godmother will be my husband's cousin - DD will call her by her first name only.

If we were to do this our child would just call them by first name. I am against calling people "Aunt" or "Uncle" who really aren't. It is not done in our family and doesn't sit right with me.

Do whatever you feel comfortable with... DD's godmother is her actual aunt, but her godfather is DH's BFF & we are calling him "uncle." I grew up calling my mom & dads close friends (1couple- the man is my godfather) "aunt" & "uncle" even though they weren't really & I stil call them that to this day. I understood they weren't my actual aunt/uncle growing up. In the end, it's whatever you & DH feel comfortable with doing. GL with ur decision!

I asked my 2 cousins, who are both of my sons godmothers, what they would like to be called and they chose aunt.

Re: Godparents who aren't already aunt/uncle

DH is Hawaiian. Aunty and Uncle are terms of respect in Hawaii. We recently went to a Hawaiian event in NYC where a hula dancer introduced herself to DS and "aunty....". For us we only extend aunty and uncle towards those who are almost family, those that are more than just friends of ours.

Growing up my parents did this with two families who we were exceptionally close with. To this day one of my two "aunts" who is not blood related, is closer to me than any of my real blood aunts. You have to do what you are comfortable with!

hmmm...I kinda like the idea of asking the person, and never thought of that.
