Is anyone's DC never happy?

I feel like DS is never fully happy, and it's killing me and DH. He's always waiting for the next best thing. He will want do to something so badly and the second we do it he wants to know what's next. He can never just be happy in the moment. Here's just an example from today, but it's pretty much always like this...
We're in Florida on vacation. He wanted to go to a specific pool area because there's a slide (he's not tall enough for the one at the other pool.) Ok, no problem. We go to the pool, we're setting up our chairs by the baby pool for my little DS. They go in the baby pool for one second and DS is already all about going to the pool with the slide. After putting him off for a few minutes so little DS can have some playtime we go over to the slide. We hang out there for a long while. We go back to the baby pool so both kids can play, maybe DH and I can actually sit down for a minute. Right away he wants to go to the arcade. We tell him we'll go later. He starts pouting. Then he wants to find lizards. We tell him he can look near our area, but we have to be able to see him. Again he pouts because he can't find any. Back to asking about the arcade. We tell him after lunch. We play for a bit and go grab lunch. We're not even done eating and DS back on the arcade. So DH ads te boys and comes back 15 minutes later and says we're leaving. Apparently playing games wasn't good enough. He wanted a toy and when DH said no, DS hit him. That was he end of that. Right back to the room. Both DS are napping now and DH is angry/upset.
You can apply this story to pretty much any day or any scenario. He just always wants more. It leaves DH and I frustrated and defeated. My little guy is not like this at all. He is so happy with the littlest things. A trip to the grocery store can make him happy, but it's like hell on earth to my older one.
Is anyone else's DS like this? I'm open to suggestions. I'm thinking of bringing him to a new behavioralist (the old one didn't do anything) because I just can't believe it's normal for him to never be happy.

yes to a degree-i honestly think,( well in our case) that it is like "first child syndrome" Chat Icon she always wants something and when she gets that wants another thing right away.
it has gotten a lot better with age and me ignoring it or telling her no and too bad. she used to really be a sour-puss whenever we did something i thought would be fun..like pumpkin picking, white post farms etc. and it was so upsetting. luckily she has grown out of that too and finally enjoys herself. but it felt like a long road to get there!
good luck-i know it's not easy!

she just turned 5 this summer..and i just started seeing improvement in her over the past few months. what you said about your second DS being so happy and easy to please is pretty much the same thing with my 3 yr old DS-he is so happy and laid back that i can't believe they come from the same family! he seems to enjoy everything while she gives me a hard time.
my sister who has 5 kids always tells me to just try to ignore it and just let it go. it's not easy at all though and frustrating to say the least!
if you think he is like this most of the time then maybe it would be good to look further into it with someone who could help like you mentioned. i will say that although DD has her pouty unhappy moments, they don't last most of the day or show up every single day either. i hope this changes for you (and him) soon!Chat Icon

If I'm not mistaken, you've mentioned attentional issues with your DS, right? I wonder if it's more related to something like that than just not being happy with what he's doing. He may not be able to sustain his attention/focus for too long and therefore needs to go on to the next thing quickly.

Just a thought. Chat Icon

Yes, I've had him at the behavioralist before. I've been asking his teachers since preschool for advice. No one seems to think anything is "wrong" with him. They just see him as high maintenance basically. He seems to have some sensory issues, but not enough to qualify for any help. He talks a lot in school, but not enough to the point where he's disruptive. He asks pertanant questions, so they just think he's smart and inquisitive.
I just don't know. I wish there was something I could do to help him, and in turn, help myself.
