can you spoil a 4mo?

My DC is now 4 months... and seems to cry when she is set down for more than 15 minutes. We tend to carry her around alot - ped and some people are saying that she is "spoiled"

but can you really spoil an infant? We tried letting her cry - but she could go for an hour.

She just likes to be constantly entertained. and seems to get bored on her own with toys.

DC#1 was kind of like this and we just lived through the pain until he grew out of it... at about 2years old

No way!! I always held my babie. My ds hated being out down. Now at 17 months, he just wants to be down, running. If you're okay with it, hold her! I could never listen to them cry.

I agree. I don't listen when people tell me to put the baby down bc they reach a point where they don't want to be held anymore. I want to cuddle them for as long as I can.

awww - thanks guys!

I knew it couldn't be the consensus to put her down. My DS was the same way and he grew out of it.
She isn't bad - she almost seems nosey about what you are doing, its cute but tiring!

I don't believe that you can spoil a baby with love, affection, and nurture regardless of the age! Baby is expressing his needs. As his mommy, I give him what he needs and everyone else can go eff off. Lol. :) love that baby mama! Especially if that's what your instinct is telling you!

No, NO way!

I hate when people think that because you hold your baby a lot and comfort them you're spoiling them. It's what they NEED, it's how they form attachments and bond with you.

My DD LOVED and NEEDED to be held and be on our chests a lot as an infant and I don't feel like she was spoiled, at all!! I felt like we were providing her with the comfort she needed when she needed it. She started STTN at 8 weeks, took naps, was a mellow happy baby but she liked to be held. So what? She's a baby, babies like to be held.

Honestly, do what you think is best for your child and don't let other people make you feel guilty about taking care of your baby. You can't spoil a baby, there are way worse things to do your baby than to hold them and love them.

While I don't believe you can spoil an infant, I do believe its important not to pick them up on the first wimper (which I see happens a lot). It is ok to let them cry a little, it helps them self soothe. JMO though!

No, not at all. I don't think its necessary to let them cry that young. I feel like if they are crying it is because they need you. They grow out of it.

Like others have said, hold her as much as you want because before you know it she will want to "get down" and go about on her own. It goes by too fast, so enjoy every second of it.

I kind of agree with this. If there's something they need, by all means there is no reason to just let them cry. Sometimes what they need is attention or cuddles. However, I think encouraging them to self sooth is so helpful.

With DD, who is 4 months also, if her crying is pretty mild I might just sit with her or give her a little attention without picking her up. I've done this since about 2 months and by now she is very capable of calming herself. However, if her cry goes beyond a mild complaint, then yes I pick her up! I think some babies go from 0 to 10 with their fussiness so that's tough.

you can't spoil with love...your baby has been in this world for 4 months and seeks your familiar heartbeat and breathing pattern....that's why baby wants to be held. You were baby's home for 9 months- kwim?

something similar to this. i don't know if spoil is the right word. teach them (and ourselves) bad habits- yes. i think so.
MIL wanted to keep DS in her arms the whole time. i never allowed it. If he was crying and needed something, yes pick him up. If he's just sitting in his bouncer, content, do not touch my child. I did not want him to get into the habit of being carried around.

to each his own of course, but this worked best for me
