Now that my son is ONE, what changes? (feeding, sleeping, etc.)

Now that my son is ONE, what changes? (feeding, sleeping, etc.)

I know everything won't happen overnight, but I'm wondering what will change or what I should start changing now that my baby is ONE!

Specific thoughts that have crossed my mind:

Can I expect him to drop a nap? Lately he seems to take one early afternoon nap and then maybe a mini, late afternoon nap in the car.

Can you share what you feed/fed your new one year old? I know we can start transitioning to milk... When do things not have to be in tiny pieces or pureed? He only has 4 teeth, but an incredibly strong bite (he almost took my dh's finger off! Lol). Also, when do bottles go away altogether? AND... what about the baby oatmeal I give him every day mixed with formula? How long do I continue the special, fortified Gerber baby oatmeal (which I like knowing he eats) and how long do I mix it with formula? When is "formula" dropped altogether?

When can he sleep with a pillow in his crib? Or does a pillow ever go in the "crib"? When can I add a "real" blanket? Right now, we just give him a quilt with relatively large holes in it...

Anything else you can think of? Thanks!!

Each child is diffent. They'll let you know with something things. What I did with DS 1 was different with DS 2. DS 1 took two naps till about 15 months. DS 2 has been on one nap since about 10 month.
DS 1 was on the bottle till almost 18 months and transitioned to milk around 13 months, but with my second he's been off the bottle since shy of 12 months and I gave him milk right before he turned one.
Food depends on the child as well. My second is 13 months and I try giving him stuff to bite, but still shoves it in his mouth so I have to watch him or still give him small pieces.

I'll start giving him a blanket this fall or winter, but he loves to be cold and sleeps better. My first got a blanket in his crib at 16 months b.c it was getting colder out.
Pillow is up to you as well. My 13 month old has a small pillow in his crib and likes to cuddle with it. My 3 yr old starts on the pillow and then moves all over in his bed.

Now that my son is ONE, what changes? (feeding, sleeping, etc.)

DD is 13.5 months. We transitioned to milk around 11.5 months. We also transitioned to sippy cups then as well. So by her first birthday she was completely off formula and bottles.

Around one year she dropped down to one nap in the middle of the afternoon. Sometimes on the weekends she'll sleep later or take a very short cat nap mid morning.

She eats everything except nut products (per my ped). Some things I still cut up, and others I don't. I can give her a slice of melon or a larger piece of bagel and she'll bite them to eat them. Really, I still cut things up out of habit, but she can handle most things.

I haven't given DD oatmeal in a while because she prefers to feed herself and hasn't mastered the spoon yet. But you can probably stop mixing it with formula when he transitions off of it.

DD is ALL over the place in the crib and sleeps on her belly 95% of the time, so I haven't given her a pillow yet. I put an Aden + Anais blanket in there since it's breathable, but she doesn't sleep with it on her. Sometimes she'll lay on it or hold it while she sleeps, but if I put it on her she wiggles her way out from it at some point.

All babies are different so just go with your gut.

Just so you know, pretty much all breakfast cereal is Iron fortified. So you can ditch the baby cereal. My DD loves Cheerios. LOVES.

I transitioned to cows milk, and adjusted her eating schedule a tad, as once you switch to milk you have to be sure your son is getting enough fruit, veggies, dairy, grains. I'm on a 3 meals/2 snacks schedule, eating every 3 hours.

Bottles are easier to transition away from the younger they are. So if you're comfortable I'd start ASAP. As for the nap, I'd follow his cues on that. He might need 2 for several more months!

DS went down from a morning and afternoon nap to just one afternoon nap. We transitioned to milk no problem, replacing an ounce of formula with an ounce of milk until it was just milk. He loves feeding himself but only has two teeth so his meals are still a lot of purées. He loves waffles, Earth's Best snack bars, and fruit. I cut blueberries into 8ths and he eats them and loves them. I also have a bag of frozen mixed veggies I keep for him. I heat up a handful and put it on his tray during dinner. My ped said he can try anything but to go slowly. My dad has a peanut allergy so we're holding off on that but he eats anything not nailed down as long as we break it into small pieces. The only thing he gagged on was chicken nuggets, and I cut them super small, but again he only has two teeth.

ETA: we started using a blanket at 11ish months because the AC in our room made it chilly. No pillow yet.

Every child develops differently , just try to gauge what you DS is ready for . DD transitioned to Milk at 10 months , has been eating whole foods since 4 months and has slept with a blanket since about 10 months . I still give her bottles and she takes one 2 hour nap a day . I just always try to read her and what she is ready for . I also believe the recommended pillow age is 2 but I'm not sure of that. Happy Birthsay to your DS and good luck !

Re: Now that my son is ONE, what changes? (feeding, sleeping, etc.)

Dd is now 14 months and now and so much has changed since turning one...i would say it feels like over night but basically something new everyday. She never crawled but was standing on her own and gliding ...then this past Monday bam she is full blown walking its crazy. She always had a pillow in her crib i would say since 8 months she never slept on her belly she stayed on her back all night now i felt ok with the pillow and a blanket and she has some stuffed animals a baby doll and Minnie ( for the night she actually sleeps in her bed ). As an infant she went for twelve hours stretches a night and nap awesome in the day ....now she fights bed time sometimes and when. She does fall asleep it's short lived we did the no no and brought her to our bed ( its a wrap she got a taste of the king size bed and now she thinks it's hers)
She takes one night nap in the morn for the most part and sometimes a cat nap in the afternoon if we are lucky.

She was late with teeth she only has four i cute EVERYTHING the size of the tip of her pinky im a lil nuts and terified of choking ....i think ill get better when she has more teeth anx i knw she chews stuff. We still do the cereal in the morn i mix with with milk ..she is starting to fight it a lil so i figure ill stop when she tells me she wouldn't eat the erg oatmeal i tried like 6 different ones no luck.

Good luck with your lil guy and enjoy it like i said everyday you will notice him doing something new and its amazing to see...i feel like after she turned one everything is going so fast now so take it all in ....happy first birthday to your lil man!.
