When did you start baby food?
DS is 3.5 months old and at his Dr. visit today I was told I could start him on baby food. Isnt 3.5mths a little too young? I mean, the Dr. wasnt forcing me or anything but she did say I could start if I wanted. When did you ladies start?

Just had our 4 month visit and the dr said we're not starting until 6 months. I was a little surprised. DD already has two teeth and seems interested, but they get what they need from the formula. He also said since she's on a good schedule and STTN why mess with a good thing.

Yea, same here. DS has been sleeping the night for a while now and is a relatively happy baby so I was shocked when she suggested this. I think Im going to wait until at least 5 months

When did you start baby food?
3.5 months is incredibly young and I honestly can't imagine why any doctor would suggest that, unleas their was some kind of issue. AAP recommends waiting until 6 months, though many peds now are giving the green light at 4 months. With our first, we were planning to wait till 6 months, but at his 4 month visit, he had very slow weight gain and a big drop on the charts. So our ped suggested starting cereal, which we did. We waited on purees until 6 months. Our second was 6.5 months when we started.

I'd wait then. The cereal can cause constipation and like PP said, it's not necessary if everything else looks good. Less for you to have to worry about now too.

We started at 5.5 months. I would have waited until 6 months, but I was going back to work part-time and wanted to do the first foods with her myself.

3.5 months. But DS was already getting cereal in his bottle for reflux. I tried to give it on a spoon and see if it helped more that way. It did for him. Cut way back on the spitting up. I mixed apples in it. He got 1 Tablespoon 2 times a day. It is young, but not unheard of. I didn't start the other stuff until 4.5 months..

3.5 months is VERY young IMO. I got the green light for cereal at 4 months, but the ped said if DS didn't want it, I could hold off. I started closer to 5 months with cereal, and it was VERY runny at that point. At about 6 months was when he really became interested and I started with more cereal, vegetables and fruit.

We started with oatmeal at 16 weeks. DS was sleeping 10- 12 hours through the night from about 8 weeks. Around 15-16 weeks he started waking in the night so i figured he was still hungry but instead of giving him a bottle in the middle of the night i started giving him oatmeal before bed. He is back to Sleeping straight through. You know your DC so you will know when it is time.
If you are not ready there is no need to start yet.

Our Ped said we could start anytime after 4 mons. Just wait for DS to give us clues he was ready. We tried cereal first and then a week later stated purees. He was ready and loved it. If he did not take the spoon we were going to wait and come back a few weeks later.
I would see if your little one is ready but 3.5 is a bit young.

We tried cereal at 3.5 months he didn't get it for a while. At 4 months we added sweet potatoes.

We started rice cereal at 4.5 months. Then we did oatmeal. By 5 months we started on simple purees. Our ped recommends starting between 5 and 6 months.

just had dd's 4 month appt yesterday and dr said ideally to wait until 6 months. However, he said that she (dd) might not make it because she's on the bigger side and to watch for when she starts drinking 8 oz at a time. He said 8 oz is like "the magic number" and that when babies start drinking that much consistently and still doesn't seem satisfied, that is one of the clear signs that they are ready for solids.
DD is still only drinking 5 oz every 3 hours and I am going to try my best to hold off until 6 months. she is breastfed and doing very well on it so I don't see any rush. l agree that 3.5 months seems way too young

His ped said ideally anytime between 4-6 months. DS was at the ped this morning and he suggested to wait another month since he is gaining consistently.
