Night training nightmare
We took my son off pull-ups way before he was ready and he continues to have regular accidents despite the fact that we cut off liquids early in the evening and wake him up to go to the bathroom. He is clearly not ready and I have to put him back into pull-ups or else I'm going to go nuts washing sheets every night. Not only that, but he still climbs into our bed sometimes and like last night, he had an accident despite the fact that I took him to the bathroom two hours before. He is going to be 5 in September and I know that some kids, especially boys, take longer than others with the night training, and I need him back in pull-ups. We have the sheet savers but believe me, he tosses and turns throughout the night and he wakes up soaked from head to toe and freezing cold.
My question is how do I do it without him freaking out that we're backtracking? He wants to be a big boy especially now that he is going to be a big brother and I have a feeling that this will crush him. Maybe when talking to him I can tell him that these are special training underwear that will help learn how to wake up on his own and go?

Re: Night training nightmare
Can you slip it on after he goes to bed? I don't think you can night train a child--it's only when he is physiologically ready.

Night training nightmare
Have you gotten him looked at by a doctor? There is a wide range of normal, obviously, but if he were mine, I would feel better if I knew he had been checked out and nothing was wrong. Meanwhile, I think I would just talk to him about waking up cold and wet, and say that this is a way that you can stop that from happening. Nothing to be ashamed of, etc. Also, are there other pull-ups that don't look "babyish"? GL!

This is brilliant! I didn't even think of that! I am definitely going to talk to him and see how he reacts, if he freaks out I am going to have to do this.
I know that you cannot night train but I thought if we took away the pull-ups and ecouraged him to wake up throughout the night that he would "get it". I did expect accidents but this is bed wetting on regular basis. He is obviously a very deep sleeper and physiologically not ready. We made the mistake of taking the pull-ups away waaay too early. I should have waited until he was waking up dry.

I slipped on a diaper after my kids went to sleep until they were night trained. They never noticed until the next morning, and it never bothered them.

Night training nightmare
DD is 4.5 and still not 100% night trained either. We get her the GoodNites...now they have Spiderman and Tinkerbell on them. Maybe he will want to put those on? Tell him spider man underwear?

Re: Night training nightmare
I'm going to try the Spiderman Goodnites...maybe he'll ease into those. I really feel like an idiot...like I should have known better than to take him out of pull-ups before he was ready. Now I feel like I'm going to scar my son or make him feel bad for going back into pull-ups. I hope tonight is not as hard as I'm envisioning it...
