Under 6 months and sun protection

DD is 4 months. I've been so nervous about taking her out because I'm not supposed to put sunscreen on her, right? So what does everyone do? Just try to stay in the shade at all times? We're going to Atlantis this weekend and I know they have an outdoor area. I'm just so confused by sun protection right now. Am I being too paranoid?

Under 6 months, I always kept them guarded from the sun- big hats, light blankets (like Aden and Anais), sunshade on the stroller. You could also get a little snap on umbrella for the stroller if your shade isn't big enough.

DS is 4 monhs also, ped said o sunscreen yet, so he's usually in a hat and I drape a light blanket over the snap n go.
Or I use his uppababy stroller which has an amazing sunshield

dd is 4 months and we use an organic sunscreen on her and she has not had any reaction to it...it is very hard to keep her completely out of the sun especially when she is in the pool.

Re: Under 6 months and sun protection

we have a 4 year old and we spend our sundays at the beach. So we decided it was best to put sunscreen on him versus him getting burned.

when dd was that little the dr said to try and stay away from sunscreen BUT if we were out for a long time in the sun that sunscreen was better than a burn.

We just took our kids to Atlantis this past weekend. My little one is only 3m old, so when we were outside we tried to keep him in the shade & kept the canopy up on the carrier & a light blanket on his legs when we couldn't. There are lots of little shady nooks around the outside area if you look around. Have fun!

Our ped said they would rather us use sunscreen than risk the chance of DS getting burned.

I keep him in the shade and covered up but, if we're going to be out for a decent amount of time I put sunscreen on him as well - especially since he has very fair skin.

I used California Baby sunscreen on my kids as early as 2 months. I agree with a PP...it's better than getting burnt, and i wanted to take them in the pool.
It's unscented and very gentle.

Re: Under 6 months and sun protection

I actually ran into my pediatrician at Buy Buy Baby in the pharmacy aisle and so i got her opinion on everything while I was there, including sunscreen.

She went through all the products and told me what she uses on her kids. She told us to buy neutrogena pure and fee baby for sunscreen.

I also put a hat on DS as well.
