Question for couples who make it a point to travel WITHOUT their LO!

When did you take your first trip?

Our baby is due Nov. 1 and I'm about to book a trip for my DH and I for Nov. 2013, which means the baby would be about a year old. I briefly considered April instead (baby would be about 5 months), but then thought that is probably too soon.... or is it?

Baby would be with my mom while we're away. I do plan to breastfeed for the first 3-6 months, so that's a reason to wait right there, but is there any other reason?

IMO, no other reason to wait. We first went away when DD was about a year old.

We make it a point to go away 1-2 year without the kids. My kids also spend a weekend every once every 4-6 weeks with my ILs so my DH and I have a free weekend.

We went away without DS when he was about 7 months old. He stayed with my parents for the week.

I actually think it's easier to leave them when they are smaller and don't really realize you are gone (meaning no separation anxiety, etc) Go and have fun!

We first went away on our own when DS was 6 months old. We left him with my parents.

DH and I have made it a point to take a week to ourselves every year! We love our DS, but it is something we really look forward to!

Re: Question for couples who make it a point to travel WITHOUT their LO!

its so much easier to vacation with infants, than toddlers .... sooooo much easier

we did all our traveling without him, around 6m thought it might be a good time to do a weekend with him. It was the best trip we had ever. He was so interested in everything, easy going, meals where pleasant, we'd feed him before going to restaurant and then at restaurant give him some bread or spaghetti to play with and we could have a perfect meal. He'd probably be just as content with cheerios. He played so happily in the hotel room with nothing but sofa cushions and pillows.

At 1.5y it was exhausting for some reason. I think we are going to go back to leaving him for future trips. lol

We went to Jamaica for my sister's wedding when DS was 13 months. Before that we had only left him overnight once with my MIL to go to a wedding. DS is 23 months now and we don't have any vacation plans yet but I'm hoping we can do another couple trip soon!

DH and I went away when the kids were 10 weeks old. I made sure to leave enough pumped milk behind.

DS is 3.5 yrs old and so far we have only done overnight trips. We are going to Jamaica in September for 5 nights to celebrate our 5 yr wedding anniversary and we can't wait to go!!!! We will miss DS a ton but we are looking forward to being able to relax and not have our world revolve around DS for a few days.

Re: Question for couples who make it a point to travel WITHOUT their LO!

I think the first time DS was a year and we went for the weekend. DS are now almost 6 years and 2.5 years and the longest we have left them was 3 nights. It's more so because we have no one willing to watch them any longer then that we wouldn't like to do it longer or more frequently.

We went away for 2 nights when DS was 10 mos. We were only 30 minutes from him at a wedding but it was nice and relaxing.

Since most of our friends are married now, we plan a trip by ourselves every year. DS 2 will be about 7 mos when we go.

baby was 18 mos old. dh and i went on a mountain bike trip.
that was the age he was weaned.
bfing was so important because he had severe allergies to milk and soy...i could not afford the formula, so priority was nursing.
2nd trip was a cruise. my kids were 5 and 22 mos.

Re: Question for couples who make it a point to travel WITHOUT their LO!

We took a weeklong vacation out of the country when older DD was 19 months old. For younger DD we are going to take a trip when she is 12 months old. I am BFing so I want to wean before I go away so that I do not have to pump and can drink!

So for me, the only consideration is nursing. I would not want to go away too early and risk losing my supply.
