DD #1 is a june baby so we did a BBQ/pool party with a mickey/minnie mouse theme for family and friends.

For just the three of us, we took her to her first Yankee game and the Bronx zoo and did a 1st year photo shoot

what did you do to celebrate your lo's 1st birthday?

We had a small family dinner on the day of and a party in our house a week later for extended family (not much) and friends...it was really nice! We brought in food from Fairway and had a friend make a custom cake and the kids just played with DD's toys and had fun...we also had a pizza for the kids

We had over 100 people at both DS 1st bday parties. They were both at restaurant/catering halls. My first was a monkey theme and my second was a winter one-derland theme. I had craft tables and a clown to entertain the kids.

On his actual birthday I wanted it just the 3 of us. We didn't go anywhere elaborate, just the park and out to dinner and he had a small smash cake at home that night with just us. The next day was a Saturday and we had a party with all of our family and close friends- about 75 people, at a beach pavilion.

Re: what did you do to celebrate your lo's 1st birthday?

On the actual day, the 3 of us just went to brunch & played outside.
The next weekend we had a party in our backyard with family & a couple close friends, about 50 people.
It was a Little Miss Sunshine theme, I made the decorations & my aunt made a big cake with the cartoon character on it.
We ordered wraps, heros & salads.
It was a lot of fun but also a lot of work, planning & running around.

Re: what did you do to celebrate your lo's 1st birthday?

we did a few things:

we had a big catering hall birthday party for about 60 people the day before. on his actual birthday DS, DH, and I went to the zoo and then had lunch out. We then had cake at our house with the grandparents and our siblings.

this year we are having a bbq at our house for all our friends with kids and the godparents the saturday before.
we are going to see DH's grandma the sunday before.
on the actual day the three of us are going to the zoo and then having cake at our house for the grandparents and siblings.

We had a party. We went through IF treatments and I had a rough pregnancy so I really felt like the 1st year needed to be celebrated in a "big" way.

what did you do to celebrate your lo's 1st birthday?

We are having a party at an American Legion with friends and family for his first birthday. I'm trying to decide what to do the actual day of. I'm thinking to go to White Post Farms with just the 3 of us, since his birthday is in October and maybe grandparents and our sisters over for cake that night.

On her actual Birthday we took her to the Children's Museum and then dinner and the weekend after her bday had a big family party with Minnie Mouse theme. She will be 2 in Sept and I am keeping it small just immediate family. I plan to do Labor day and Thanksgiving so it will just be way too much if we do a big birthday.

Re: what did you do to celebrate your lo's 1st birthday?

the 1st birthday is a very big celebration in korean tradition. We are going to rent a private room in a restaurant/hall and have a party with family and friends. LO will wear a traditional korean dress like this External Image

can't wait to see her in one Chat Icon

one of the traditions is to place the baby in front of different objects like money, a ball, string etc and see which one he/she picks. this will determine what they will be when they grow up. it's cute Chat Icon

Re: what did you do to celebrate your lo's 1st birthday?

Her first birthday was very important to us. You only get one first. So it was ours. The first day she was alive was a hectic and crazy in a hospital, overwhelming, etc.

For her first birthday it was just us three. Just like it was a year ago. But less stressful. We took her to the zoo. haha she LOOOVED it! I have photos and we had a great time. She got a 1st Bday crown and we kept the tickets.

It was the best and I wouldnt have traded it for all the parties in the world. At one she didn't know what was going on, but we did. And we spent it with her. Enjoying her and thinking "ha, right about now she and I were walking halls, me pushing her around the nurses station.. Now I'm pushing her stroller around a lion!Chat Icon Zoo food isn't the best, but its better than Hospital food and maybe even cheaper. Watching new animal mamas with their babies while I held mine and her bottle. Yeah. Memories!

On his actual birthday: 12 month check up at the pediatrician followed by a visit to the hospital to show DS where he was born. The afternoon I had to work but it turned out DS took a good nap. We went to Friendly's for dinner where the staff brought a bouquet of balloons to our table and clapped/sang to him. He had a small smash cake when we got home.

Weekend following his birthday: We had a backyard party for our family and very close friends that had the theme "Fun to be One".

We just did a small pizza party at our house with our siblings, my parents (my ILs live OOS) & my godparents. Including the 3 of us I think we were 11 people total...We'll do the same for ds #2's first birthday.

what did you do to celebrate your lo's 1st birthday?

We are having a party at a kiddie place, Mickey Mouse theme. We are inviting the adults closest to us and kids w/their parents. We are going to have some catered food for adults. We were going to rent a hall, but we did a big christening and decided that was enough hoopla for one year, this will nice and DS will LOVE seeing Mickey.
