wow that is def overboard. I hope that it is a shower/gender reveal party otherwise that is just insane! i would def bring a gift...and honestly if i ended up getting a shower invite too in a few weeks/month, if prob decline. there are just so many celebrations people can have for a baby. im pregnant now and i dont even WANT a shower - let alone a gender reveal etc...the baby may be important in MY life...but guess what, my friends and family have their own things going on in their lives

I had a gender reveal party with family and close friends (although my family is rather large). We did it at my parents. It was cute because most people brought in a pink gift bag and blue gift bag and once the cake was cute, they handed me the right gift. They were all onsies, which at kohls could be $5.99. I think its a cute idea. While a catering hall is a bit over the top, maybe they struggled to get pregnant or are really excited. I really doubt it is in lieu of the shower. If it was, they probably would have provided registry cards.

Hey, they might be uber wealthy and want to throw a big party. Unorthodox? Yes. A little overboard? Yes. If they have the time/money? Whatev.

I would not bring a gift. Or if I did, I liked what a PP said about a SMALL gift. I would do like a pink or blue pacifier.

I would guess that this is in lieu of a shower- or at least I would hope! People are delusional to think that enough people to fill a catering hall give a crap whether their kid is a boy or girl.

I love when someone writes EXACTLY what i'm thinking!!! lol!!

People are nuts.

I think maybe they don't have space in their home and that's why they booked a hall.

Maybe they struggled for years and are so excited.

I don't get all the animosity. So many shit things in life, that I don't mind celebrating when I can.

Everyone lives weddings and the excess of it and then people end up divorced. At least a baby is for keeps Chat Icon

Some people just sound so miserable.

I'd get a gift of course. But if people are doubting them hosting such an event and think its silly, then you're probably not a good friend anyway and should stay away.

It's free food and a joyful occasion. Geez Louise!

I agree with pretty much everything you said.

Who cares? Let people celebrate what they want, and don't go if you don't want to go.

You know
I think of the shooting in Colorado. People just went to a movie and are killed. Including a 6 year old girl. Life is precious and short and not in our hands. And a party is excessive? To celebrate a new life? It's sad that people even question this especially if it's at a hall. Why not just go and have fun and be happy for others. Happiness is contagious.

WHOA, when did I become a bad friend? I never questioned whether or not I would go. I was just trying to figure out if this was a new style baby shower and if I should bring a gift.

Probably is apples to oranges. I guess my mentality is everyone says how nutty life is and we all have moments where life is rough ans isnt treating us well and wow, can't even go to a movie anymore and there is evil in the world but, "OMG can u believe?? I just got invited by a loved one to celebrate a special moment! At a VW hall! How excessive and
Show-offy!".

I'm all for celebrating, but you know if you went and brought no gift, or a small gift the hostess would roll her eyes. Or if you said no you'd be a bad friend for not attending. I see posts about this alllllll the time.

What is someone supposed to do who can't afford to give 5 gifts for every baby/wedding????

You ladies are so pathetic. It's a party. Go and have fun.

Let me guess: those of you who are complaining about this and that, if you didn't get an invite to such a party, you'd be complaining about that, too. Admit it.

So someone wants to do something different than the norm, throw a different kind of party and everyone here is getting hot and bothered and their panties in a bunch. My goodness gracious. This is frustrating to read!!!

Life is short.
Smile.
Have fun.

Jeez!!!
