Gender Reveal Party
We just got an invitation to one and it's at a hall. Is this in place of a baby shower? Do we bring a gift? I've never heard of this before.

Re: Gender Reveal Party
My sister is having one on Saturday at her house. I haven't really heard of it taking place at a hall? Hmmm maybe it is the girls shower? Can you call someone and ask? My sister is just having immediate family and her best friend from high school.

Wow, that's a little over the top for a gender reveal. I'd probably decline the invite...

I think that's the first time I've heard of a gender reveal at a hall instead of just at someone's house with close family. Can you find out "through the grapevine" about it? I think I would try that first and see if maybe they are doing this instead of a shower or not.

While I think it might be over the top I wouldn't decline bc of it..
To answer the OP I think I would treat it as I would a bridal shower and pick a gift as I would for a shower.

Gender Reveal Party
It's DH's cousin's wife, so I guess I could reach out to his Aunt to see. I've heard of a gender reveal cake, but I thought it was just something you do at home with your closest family. I think the baby is due in Dec so maybe they are doing this instead of a shower since she is due around the holidays. Idk? The invite didn't have any registry info or anything like that.

Re: Gender Reveal Party
Is it possible it is a gender reveal baby shower? There is a girl on here (teaforthree) who did that. If I remember correctly, only her mom and brother knew the gender of the baby, and they did all the decorating, etc. So when all the guests and they walked in, they found out the gender. I'd go the route other suggested of asking family members what the deal is.

I went to one and it was also the shower. Ask around and find out. If it's just a gender reveal and she's also having a shower, I'd opt out of bringing a gift.

I'd treat it as a shower and bring a gift. But I agree, that sounds really over the top. But I feel like anything other than a wedding or sweet 16/bar mitzvah held at a fancy catering hall is too much.

I would not assume this is the shower. I would probably bring a gift for the couple and not a baby item - like a GC to a 4D sono place or a GC for a portrait studio.

Re: Gender Reveal Party
I would guess that this is in lieu of a shower- or at least I would hope! People are delusional to think that enough people to fill a catering hall give a crap whether their kid is a boy or girl.

It's just at a VFW hall, not a fancy catering hall. I wasn't sure if this was the new "it" thing to do. From these responses, clearly it is not. LOL!

Thank you!!!!!! I didn't care this much if my OWN child was a boy or girl!
Every wedding and birth is turning into 900 events. Its getting a bit out of hand.

I agree - bring a frame/album and go. If no one else brings a gift, keep it in your bag and decide what to do when you get there.
I can see if they had trouble getting pregnant or its the first grandchild people going a little overboard. A baby is a reason to celebrate.

I think I'd go with a "Congrats on being pregnant card" and that's it. I'd check out through family if this is actually the shower, although I would think it's probably not if that wasn't mentioned in the invite. I would not be bringing a gift to a basically made-up event, unless it was a really small one. Maybe a token baby board book would be the extent of it. It would be really ballsy to expect gifts at this "event".

Seriously...that is pretty ridiculous to have a gender reveal party in a HALL!! I swear...I never heard of this when I had my son 11 years ago. Do people besides the soon-to-be parents and maybe the grandparents really give a crap WHAT you have?

I wouldn't think this is in lieu of a baby shower. I haven't heard of one in a catering hall but to each his own.
There are a ton of gift giving occasions & I don't think anyone really needs to add to anyone's obligations. But this may be more about "come celebrate the baby" than bring a gift. I think it's one of those things that if you're not into it, send a card & a small token gift & save the big gift for the baby shower. As for who gives a crap about what people are having, if it's someone I'm close to & I want to celebrate with, I'd be there gift in hand.
