Whiny 13 month old!

DD will be 13 months soon and for the past month or so she has been SO incredibly whiny. It's probably the worst with mealtimes...

Will this ever end? I swear she whines more with me than anyone else. My mother watches her 3 days/week while I work and says she hardly ever whines with her (although she does still throw the food off her plate).

I have tried to teach her 'more' with sign language, we have been doing it for 2 months now. Sometimes she makes the sign (actually she kind of claps, but I know it's her asking for more), but most of the time she just points to the food and whines.

She throws food off her highchair tray if she doesn't want to eat it, I call her the blueberry princess because some days that is all I can get her to eat.

Her new thing is that now she doesn't want small pieces of things on her tray. For instance, she wants the whole giant slice of cheese, which would be fine if she actually took small bites, but no, she shoves the whole thing in her mouth.

Nope. My 13 month old DD is an angel Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't think there is much you can do in terms of disciple at this age. DH and I joke that 1 is the new 2.

We already use reverse psychology with DD - when she won't drink her milk we pretend to drink it and suddenly she wants it. Maybe try that? No good advice except this too shall pass!

13months and shinny over here....but I think for dd it is more out of frustration....she wants to run so bad ...but hasn't mastered walking.....we give he toys n I play the radio while she eats so she is too entertained to complain at meal time till she is done....very cranky n fighting bed n nap time is our real issue i created a monster ..i have to lay with her for like n hr or two in my bed then put her in crib n pray she stays asleep.

DD has gotten more whiny and clingy lately too... and it's only around me. She's completely fine when she's with my mom or DH, but as soon as she sees me, she starts with the whining. Not much we can do about it though lol. I just have to let her whine sometimes because I have things to do around the house.

Re: Whiny 13 month old!

My DS is 16M and has been whiney for a few months now. I think it's frustration for sure. For him, he wants to talk so bad but can't and he gets frustrated and has fits.

With eating we had/have something similar bc he wants to feed himself but I don't want to go through 12 outfits a day. I've tried making finger foods for him that he can eat in small pieces like grilled cheese, Aunt Jimama (sp?) mini pancakes I give him whole and he nibbles and the ol standby of Cheerios. Most times I'll give him a few Cheerio's in a small tuperware to distract him while I spoon feed him the "real" food. He's very into taking the top off and on and taking the Cheerio's in and out and sometimes eating them. Some days he doesn't eat as balanced as I'd like but at least he ate.

I'm told it gets easier and we still struggle with language but the food is getting better as he gets older.

Good luck!!!

DD is 1 & she's such a whiner !!! I can't take it sometimes. It's also mostly when she eats. Unless it's something she really loves, she always tosses everything on the floor or spits it out. If I walk away for a second she starts right up. I have a feeling it's just her personality. I love her more then anything & she is so cute, fun & loveable but she is a pain in my buttChat Icon (it's the same way I feel about my husbandChat Icon )

Whiny 13 month old!

We have moved on from whining to screaming, most of the time. DS is almost 16 months. Whining is reserved for when he wants something but can't have it. That quickly goes to the fake cry though. Screaming is usually for the cats, oh yeah they love that lol

He is soooo much better about throwing things off his tray, it will only be one or two items now. Instead he will dump his water and use his tray as a water table.
