She should not be sleeping ANYWHERE, nevermind your bed, ew,ew,ew. IMO, she should not be sleeping during the day when he naps either. She is WORKING. on the clock. you do not get to nap during working hours! my old boss use to close his door for an hour every day and drink expensive scotch and practice his golf swing, I would not NAP during this down time.

I am sooooo angry for you. Because now I would be doubting everything she ever did. It is so hard to trust people. I would def invest in some nanny cams, if you hire another in house nanny.

why does she even need to nap when you child is napping??if she's a tired, low energy person that needs to sleep this much then shes not fit to watch a child

I'm not condoning the nanny's behavior... but what about SAHM that naps when their kid is napping? How is that different? Just curious. Many days I have NO energy to do anything other than nap or lay down when my kids nap. They suck all the energy out of me!!! LOL

In this case, I would have had DH immediately let her go. ANYONE could have walked into your house!

It is very different She is Paid ..end of story .I do not pay you to sleep ..big difference. ETA th whole nap when they nap works when the child is in fact napping and not watching tv.

If you read what I wrote, I said I wasn't condoning the nanny's behavior. I had a babysitter for a whole when my DS was an infant, there were times she would fall asleep in the chair in his room when he was napping. I had no issue with it. IF my nanny was sleeping while my kid was awake....well, then she would be gone. I guess I don't see the big deal.

To the OP...IN YOUR BED?????? Fire her NOW

HELL YEAH. I don't pay someone to take a nap. I don't mind the tv but she is not watching your child if she is taking a nap! Think about it - if your boss caught you napping at your desk, wouldn't you get written up and fired. Think of having a child's life in your hands!

ETA: DH informed me that she was asleep on our bed in the master bedroom and that DS was watching tv on our bed. I don't think this is any more acceptable. It bugs me that she is sleeping on our bed! She is gone for sure.

I don't know if it makes a difference but I do this when I'm super tired. We have a sitting room full of toys. I never fall asleep completely though. I will lay down and rest while the kids play/watch tv in our room.

She was asleep in you bed while your dc was in it and was so asleep your DH had to wake her? Ummmmm HELLO head injury form a fall! Fire her ASAP.

I let our previous sitter go for something similar. She was napping on my couch and I had to wake her by shaking her shoulders, while holding the screaming newborn she was being paid to watch/listen for. Hardest part of letting her go was because she was family (cousin) but ultimately DH & I realized she wasn't giving our children the best care possible.

I feel so betrayed. We treated her like family. I think she got too comfortable. I do think she genuinely cares for DS. I don't think she does this often. DH and I do come and go.

We are not going to fire her immediately. We plan to enroll DS#2 in preschool in September. I'm afraid to see her tomorrow morning because I may go off on her. If she walks out on us, we are screwed. We totally depend on her.

I may have to call in my parents, which is a whole other headache. My mom's uncontrollable nagging will drive me insane.

The fact that she was in your bed makes it even worse b/c she didn't just doze off on the couch- she was looking for a little nappy time- and dozing is totally unacceptable anyway (except of course for when I was pregnant and would put a movie on for ds and "just rest my eyes" with my hand wrapped around one of his limbs, lol).

UM, no question in my mind I would not have her watch my children again. Your DC is only 18 months old I think you said? And she was ASLEEP? This is her job.

I'm so sorry, but I would be done over this.

What????!!!!! I totally missed that she was sleeping in your bed!

Get her out asap. If she accidentally nodded off on the couch next to the baby, possibly forgivable, but to set him in front of the t.v. then to go into another room to nap!!! NOOOOOOO WAY! I would have lost it on that woman!

I would get rid of her. The fact that she was asleep....I don't sleep at my job so I do not think its ok for her to sleep at her job...I don't care if your DS was asleep.....Its not like she is the mom and she uses that time to relax. This is her JOB!

Re: Would you get rid of your nanny over this?

Ok, the fact that she was asleep is bad enough IMO -

But explain to me ANY reason whatsoever that she should need to be in your master bedroom? As a nanny .......ANY reason at all !!! ???

I would be livid!

Your bedroom should be completely off limits to her - that is your private area of your home .........
and not only is she IN there, but she's asleep IN YOUR BED ??????

I'd be a lunatic

Not that it is any excuse at all but our master suite is the safest place to fall asleep. We have an adjacent sitting room full of toys. DH and I often relax in the room while the kids play around us.

As strange as it seems, I am a bit relieved that she fell asleep in our room. The whole situation bothers me but DS is probably safest in our master bedroom.

Of course then it bugs the $#@$ out of me that she is sleeping in our bed!!!!

I wouldn't keep her for convenience. I know - from personal experience - how much it sucks to have a nanny leave unexpectedly. I had one week's notice to find someone new. Yes, I had to take off work and call in some favors from my parents until we found someone, but we did it. And now, we have an even better nanny. DON'T keep her around if your gut is telling you to let her go. If you are afraid you are going to go off on her, that means you are uncomfortable with the situation. You shouldn't have to feel that way!!

Yes, I would fire her. As far as I would be concerned, she is solely responsible for watching my kid for a few hours per day. There is no reason she should be napping. Ever.

I'd be pretty livid. Sleeping in your bed is just weird, but sleeping while you're supposed to be watching an 18 month old (or any of your children) is just unacceptable. My DD is 18 months and could get in all sorts of dangerous trouble if my eyes are not on her at all times.

She may have fell asleep on accident. That has happened to me before, but she also broke the no tv rule and knew that.

Id go with the preschool if you trust them. I did as soon as DD was old enough.
