IF she had to be woken up by your husband, how would she hear if your child was in danger, or god forbid choking? That is definite grounds for immediate termination.

Well you now know she naps when you're kid is awake. I take it she's not a live-in nanny and this is her only job and she should be AWAKE the entire time.

Would you get rid of your nanny over this?

She'd be done. Something similar happened with us. DH stayed home sick while the sitter was there watching dd. He could hear where dd was all day. The sitter moved her from the exersaucer to a then gated off area we had, all day. Nothing else. Sitter sat on couch and watched tv. That was the last time she watched her. DD was in daycare the following week.

Absolutely. DD is 4.5 and I don't nap when she is awake...no way would I be OK with my Nanny napping while my 18MO is awake. And it's not like she nodded off either...if your DH had to wake her she was in a pretty deep sleep. Unacceptable IMO

why does she even need to nap when you child is napping??if she's a tired, low energy person that needs to sleep this much then shes not fit to watch a child

I'm not condoning the nanny's behavior... but what about SAHM that naps when their kid is napping? How is that different? Just curious. Many days I have NO energy to do anything other than nap or lay down when my kids nap. They suck all the energy out of me!!! LOL

In this case, I would have had DH immediately let her go. ANYONE could have walked into your house!

I'd be super upset that she was asleep. I would line someone else up and then lose her.

It is very different She is Paid ..end of story .I do not pay you to sleep ..big difference. ETA th whole nap when they nap works when the child is in fact napping and not watching tv.

This. The work day is not for napping, period. She'd be gone for me.

Same here. I think the napping is unacceptable. So many things can happen in that scenario Chat Icon

Napping on the couch while DS was sleeping if she had no other duties would be one thing but sleeping in your bed while DS was awake isn't acceptable.

I know you went back and forth with this decision and I think now your answer is clear.

I'm a SAHM and have napped on occasion when DS was napping. When I was a teacher, my PAID job, I never put my head down and slept at my desk while the kids went to lunch... you just don't sleep while at work

I don't even like the idea of her napping when DCs is napping... She should be awake. She is being paid to watch a child - what if DC was sick in the crib or tangled in a blanket?

Your child watching tv is the least of the problem here imo. The fact that your dh had to wake her up is enough to tell her bye bye.

This exactly...if you fell asleep at your job you would be fired so it should be the same here
