When did your LO start using a sippy cup and did you reserve it just for water/juice or did you do a total transition and get rid of the bottle once you started sippys and give milk too?

Speaking of which.. at what age did you start LO on juice? and what kind?

Sippy Cups

DS started on the playtex straw cup around 7 months old. right now I only put water in it, but my MIL has tried some BM in it since he isn't crazy about the bottles much anymore.

we haven't tried juice yet. i think i might wait awhile on that one.

I started DD on the straw sippy at 6 months with just water. At 11 1/2 months I transitioned her to milk and started giving her milk in the sippy cups to get her off the bottles. She hasn't had juice yet and I don't plan to give it to her anytime soon.

Re: Sippy Cups

My DD is 2.5 and refuses to drink milk from a sippy cup. She only drinks milk from a bottle.

She drinks water from a straw cup, but refuses to drink milk.

I wish we tried earlier... I think we tried around a year.

There is no reason for babies to drink juice. We gave dd prune juice diluted with water for constipation when she was under a year, but that was the only juice she was offered until she was old enough to be places where juice boxes were given out, and that's only as a treat.

Re: Sippy Cups

With my first son, we gave him a straw sippy around 6 months and he "got it" by about 10 months. We only have him water in it until after he was a year old, then we started putting milk in it. I EBF so he was never on bottles regularly. He is 2.5 and we still don't give him juice.

Started the straw cup at 6 months (the small playtex starter cup) with water only. Started the big playtex straw cup around 7.5-8 months when he really got the concept. Closer to a year I replaced his lunch bottle with a straw cup (the insulated ones) while he was transutioning to milk I then replaced the morning bottle with a cup, and when he was all on milk I replaced the last bottle with the cup and started to give it to him with dinner instead of right before bed.

I personally didn't give juice. There is no nutritional need, and I wanted him to get used to and enjoy the plain water. At 21 months he has now had diluted juice here and there, but nothing on a regular basis. Sometimes he has water that has had cut up oranges, lemons & limes sitting in it. That gives it some natural flavor.
