baby/toddler with fused vagina?

Dd had a fused vagina since birth. My ped pointed it out to me (I never noticed on my own) and told me that it was nothing to worry about and that it would most like just correct itself once she gets older and is potty trained and we're not using ointments and such.

She is now 2.5 and is not yet potty trained but starting, but we don't use ointments as much. When changing her I noticed a hole where there was never one before. I assumed it was just her becoming unfused, and wasn't concerned about it.

Has anyone experienced this? Is this something I should call the ped about? She doesn't seem bothered by it and its not red or anything. We are going away for a week on Sat, should we let it be or call the ped? I noticed it a couple of days ago and DH noticed it yesterday - I didn't think twice about it until DH called me in when he was changing her diaper yesterday.

Any input greatly appreciated. Sorry so long!

I would call the ped just to get some peace of mind, so you're not wondering about it.

baby/toddler with fused vagina?

Just call the ped and ask for peace of mind. When my daughter was about 9 months old I was told that she had a fused labia and they were going to give her a cream. I then changed peds and told the new doctor, who examined her. He gave me a choice - prescribe the medication or leave it alone for now because it corrects itself and is really common. I chose the latter because we also didn't want to start her on medications so young.

But seriously - I would just call the doctor to let them know and to get some reassurance.

Re: baby/toddler with fused vagina?

My daughter has the same issue she is now 3 and potty trained. I haven't noticed a difference in it yet but I did ask the Ped at her 3 year check up and she said if she isn't having issue then just leave it alone. So that is what we are doing for now. If it doesn't correct itself in a year then we might try the cream.

A call will never hurt just a piece of mind!!

Re: baby/toddler with fused vagina? Update/vent at bottom

OK, now I need to vent - I called the Dr and left a message this afternoon, and nobody called me back. I understand its not an emergency, but I feel the dr. should have called me back. Do most of your dr's return calls the same day? We are going away on SAt and I wanted to bring her in in the am if the dr thought it was necessary.

Yes my doctor calls that same day! I would make another call today.

Re: baby/toddler with fused vagina?

Thanks ladies.

I brought DD to the dr. today. He told me that it looked good - its beginning to unfuse on its own, and there's still more to go, and this is a very good thing, and not to worry.

So those of you with DD's with the same condition - don't freak out if you see this happen!

He also apologized before I could complain - he said that there was a glitch in the computer system and he just saw the message this morning.

I really like him, so I will let it slide, but if it happens again, I am thinking of switching practices.
