Thanks ladies! I love the name Ryan but can't use it because my sister named my nephew Ryan. My dad's name was Robert and I'm naming ds after him - my sister did too. I was incredibly close with my dad and it's been 5 years but I still miss himsomuch. I thought about using Robert, but it mightbe too weird for me. I know aloof cultures use the same exact name, but we usually use the first initial. Also, my dad called me "little Robert" because we were so much alike, so itjustmightbe too weird for me tousle his exact name.
Thanks for the website links. Just can't find an r name I love and am hoping someone will spit out something I never thought of.

Would it be less weird if you used Robert as a middle name? If this baby was a boy, we were thinking of using Rubin (my grandpa's name) as a middle.

We definitely are using R for the first letter of the first name, not the middle. DD is Maya and is named after DH's mom, Masha. We were lucky, we found an M name we loved. We definitely want this baby named after my dad in his first name, but I don't want to constantly look at him and think of my dad.... I want him to be his own person.... I never met DH's mom - she passed when he was only 18, but he thought it would have been odd to name her exactly after his mom, and he doesn't think of her all the time when he says Maya's name.
Sorry I'm so rambling. I'm almost 6 months, and Robert is really the only name we can agree on, but I am just afraid it will be weird. My dad went by Bob to his friends as an adult, but all his family called him Robbie. I think I would call the baby Robbie or Bobby, not Robert, but still odd. Thanks for listening to the vent, and please keep the names coming.
