how can i transition my ds into not nursing to sleep?
wow, sounds like my situation! luckily, the last few nights when I've gone to put him down he has woken up before i put him in his crib and was able to put himself back to sleep. I'm hoping this is a trend that continues. otherwise, I was just praying that it was something he would grow into as he got older! Or I might just be nursing to sleep for some time to come!

Re: how can i transition my ds into not nursing to sleep?
I EBF-ed DD until 18 months and used nursing to put her to sleep and down for naps. I was dreading the cay I would start to wean solely because of this reason!!!
It was a long process but we did it!! Basically, for the first few nights, DH gave her a bottle of BM to sleep. We then began gradually adding whole milk to the BM, increasing the amount of whole milk and decreasing the BM each night. After a few days, I began giving her the bottle to sleep. She would ask to BF, and I would allow it BUT onlyfor a short period of time. I gradually decreased the time she could nurse each night until she was only nursing for less than a minute. Eventually she stopped asking for it.
As for naps..... I work during the day so she was used to going down for naps without nursing. However, being that on weekends she would get nured to nap, she had a more difficult time weaning for naps. I decided to wait until she was fully weaned from her nighttime nursing before approaching the naptime nursing. I didnt start to wean from naps till she was 20 months old. (2 months after I began to wean from nighttime nursing). I did the same as I did with the nighttime nursing but, since it only occurred on weekends, it took a while. DD is now 23 months and it's been a month since I nursed her last. She's asked for it once or twice but I gently say no and she's ok with it.
I hope this helps.

Have you thought about pumping and maybe introducing the bottle at night?
