Where are you during nap time?

I am crashing from the IF board to ask this question just so I can hear the answer from several different people. Do you plan to be at home every single day during your child's nap time or are you sometimes out of the house. And if you are out of the house, where do they nap?

Where are you during nap time?

I TRY to work my schedule around DD's nap time because she'll only sleep in her crib. However, there are times she will nap in the car.

DS will nap anywhere. I do not work around his schedule at all.

def dont stay home!!!
i plan the day around the nap schedule when possible, but when i cant DD goes with it and naps when we returns.
i generally plan to leave the house at the time of her first nap and she naps in the car. sometimes when i get where we are going i have to sit in the car a few extra minutes until she wakes up but its usually worth it rather than waking her and getting a cranky baby.
for her afternoon nap again its either in the car or in the stroller.
although the length and quality of the nap is no doubt better when we are home, i see no reason to be a prisoner to her nap schedule!!
the earlier you can "train" them to go with the flow the better. obviously this only works with some babies, but it works great for us!!
good luck!

I try to work around them because it's the only time I have to get some things done around the house, eat/shower or just rest!!
ETA: plus my DS is not a go with the flow type baby. When he is tired we all know it!!

Re: Where are you during nap time?

It depends on what I have to do. DD will nap in the car or crib, she will not nap when we are out, there is too much going on.

If I have to go out then we do and she naps when we get back, but if I can get the nap in then I do because she gets tired and I feel bad.

Re: Where are you during nap time?

we try to work around the twins naps. We just tried sleeping in their stroller and they both slept a little, but im not sure it was worth having 2 cranky babies. also because they are twins it is soooo important that they are on the same schedule for our sanity. I think if I had 1 baby I would be more flexible with it.

DD sleeps anywhere and everywhere LOL

If I can control the time, if I am just going to someone's house, I will tell them after naptime so *I* can get some stuff done while she naps OR I can nap myself Chat Icon

But if there is a scheduled event like a party, or an all day thing - I just bring DD out with me and she will nap in her stroller.

If she doesn't nap, she is OK too, I will just put her down to bed a little earlier.

She is 23 months and still nap 3-4 hours a day!

I always structured my day around DD's naps. I felt it was very important that she get the rest she needed and I didn't feel it was fair of me to drag her around exhausted and not allow her to get a proper nap. It was annoying, of course, to work around her nap schedule but I felt it was necessary. Everyone deals with nap time differently, this is just what worked best for DD and I. Chat Icon

Re: Where are you during nap time?

For the most part I work around naps.

I do stuff around the house until after her first nap. After her first nap is generally when we run errands or go do something fun. She doesn't take a 2nd nap every day anymore, she's 15 months and I think she's starting to convert to one nap....so I don't work around the 2nd so much anymore...if we're out she doesn't take one and if we're home sometimes she does!

Re: Where are you during nap time?

I try to work around naps. Not only b/c DS sleeps better at home, but also b/c I have a work-from-home job and one of the main times for me to work is during naptime. But if we have to be out he sleeps in the car or stroller. If we are at someone's house or at a party though we usually end up skipping the nap b/c he just can't fall asleep in those situations.

I don't stay home everyday for nap. They will nap where I am usually in the stroller. So, I go food shopping, Target runs, mall..whatever I need to do with concentration...LOL.

If you work so much around their schedules when they are babies, then you will be a slave to that when they get older, where they won't nap anywhere but at home. I have friends that kick themselves over this!

Re: Where are you during nap time?

I don't work around DDs naps. I try to make sure she gets her morning nap in on the weekends. But after that, especially since it's summer, we head out and she will end up sleeping in the car or on us or whatever.

This is what I've done for my DCs, as well. It's worked very well for us to keep everyone on a schedule. It's much more difficult with three now, poor youngest DS gets dragged everywhere because I can't keep them all home EVERY afternoon but I try my best to keep them in a routine.
I also WAH so I can get some e-mails/work done while all three nap.

This, exactly!

With twins it is so hard to keep them on the same schedule day after day.

For me, naps are precious. I can get some work done (I work from home during the week and work on Saturdays). I can wash bottles and do dishes. I can shower! lol

Where are you during nap time?

I try to plan things with his nap. for example, on the weekends he takes a morning nap. If DH and I have things to do we put him in the carseat and he falls asleep and we go out and about and get things done. DS is pretty good and will sleep in his carseat and stroller, but it is getting harder and harder.

I use to work everything around her schd. but DD i a pretty go with the flow kid so now if we are out during her nap time she will either fall asleep in the car or just nap when we get home.

Re: Where are you during nap time?

my ds sleps all night in his crib, but wont nap in it sooo he only naps in the stroller or in the carseat...we did everything we could do, but no luck. So we i dont stay home unless we want to, he will fall asleep in car and/or in stoller so dh and I go out and do what we need to

if staying home i push him around the house and in seconds he is asleep

Agreed, I hate to "waste" naptime out and not use it to do my own thing. That being said I only have one kid... if I had a second, they'd probably be forced to nap on the go because I won't make DD stay at home and wait out a nap.. she'll need a life too Chat Icon

Re: Where are you during nap time?

We are home for naps. She will only sleep in the crib or pnp, but has to be laying down on her belly.

I tried my hardest to get her to nap anywhere and everywhere but she just never did. Even as an infant. It wasn't worth the stress and cranky baby in the end.

Shes 2 now and has maybe slept 5 times in her stroller b/c she was just exhausted and even in the car she will only sleep if its nap time and even then sometimes she stays awake.
