1 yr old gags and chokes on all solids
Kaylee chokes on everything ! Teething biscuits, fruit , and any solid ! She will actually chole and turn purple or throw it up . Any advice?

My DD was like that...to me she wasn't ready and still gave her pureed foods. If I gave her solids it was in really really small pieces "pea" size and nothing crunchy. It will pass now at 21 months she eats all kinds of foods.

i was going to say this, too. I'm a speech therapist- and the speech therapists who work in EI could work on feeding, if needed. basically, its just playing around with different textures and temperatures and building up to more solids that your DD can handle better.
Its hard to say if there is definitely an issue, but if you're worried I would get in touch with EI. good luck!!

My dd was like this. She also would projectile vomit anything she didn't like taste wise. It was awful sometimes she would be able to eat a meal only to gag on a food and vomit all her food back up. It was basically everything she ate. She got increasingly better with time. By 18 months it became infrequent. Now at 22 months she very rarely does it.

DS 1 w like this and has been seem by an EI. He now gets speech and OT. He has sensory issues. He basically hates lots of textures and has some anxiety now with food b.c he hates chocking on certain textures. He is much better and knows what he likes and doesn't. Once in a while I can get him to eat something other than his usual. He is 3 now. I had him evaluated at 1 in NY and didn't qualify. I waited a year and we moved to nj. He qualified and got EI for a year. Wish i had him evaluated again earlier so he couldve gotten more EI. Now he is really doing well, but it's a long process.
Long story short... Have her evaluated.

We kept trying & reintroduced going from soft to a little thicker, to a little lumpy & it worked fine. But ours was at 8 months & I believe it was because I left introducing solids too late.

My son just turned two and he still eats very few foods. He doesn't gag as much because he will just spit it out. I worry for him in the same way. How do I get him evaluated for speech? Do I go through his pediatrician first?

You can ask your Ped for the number and they will take it from there. You can also probably look it up online. In nj I judt googles my towns EI number and called. He qualified after they came to the house and evaluated him.
If you believe he needs the services then don't sugar coat it. Tell them all the issues yo are concerned with.

Thank you everyone ! I have a doc appointment for her on monday and will discuss all this with the doc and see what we can do from there . Last time she told me to give her those yogurt bites but she gagged and threw that up as well
