my 4 yo is being such a brat
She has been so whiny, bratty, and MEAN at times! I took the girls to argyle lake this morning, she got to ride her bike around twice, played on the playground and then it was time to go. she was fine about leaving. we were hot, sweaty and tired. since we've gotten home she has been a beast! i'm trying really hard not to yell at her all the time but she needs to know who's boss. time outs are really not doing the trick. some things have been taken away. she just throws tantrums . i cannot handle a summer like this! i almost wanted to cry before because i was envisioning the summer filled with fights and bratty behavior. there's no reasoning with a 4 yo. please help :( i do have lots of things planned for us this summer but we need to just be able to play at home sometimes!

my 4 yo is being such a brat
Sounds like she may be over tired today. The heat takes a lot out of them. AJ was being such a brat when I picked him up from daycare yesterday. He didnt nap and was playing outside. I usually put him in his room and tell he cant come out till he calms down. :-/

DD is like this every single day, but I do find it worse when she is tired, too hot, or hungry. That escalates the bratty behavior for sure! I bet that contributed to your DD's situation yesterday too!!

Re: my 4 yo is being such a brat
I ws just telling a friend how evil they are at 4 years old. Her DS just turned 4 and she thought it was bc she just had a baby. I said it may be but DS became such a PITA at 4.
Fresh, bossy, sometimes mean, cranky, etc. Its like great extremes. He is a sweetie one minute and then a terror who doesnt listen the next.
I say we just lock all these 4yo in a room together, while we have a bottle (or more) of wine!~!!

Re: my 4 yo is being such a brat
we do time out in the packnplay.... that way theres no escape, no toys, nothing to destruct......
if he acts up in there it gets extended, if he wont apologize when times up it gets extended.....
Its worked pretty well because then we can warn him he's going to go in there if he doesn't stop and it will stop him.

I am in the same boat with you ladies, it stinks :(
I actually gave my bratty lil 3 1/2 year old time out the other day and she actually said to me, "That's fine mommy...I'll sit here alll day, I don't care." lol
On one hand she is the sweetest loving caring child ever and the next she can be such a lil brat, its crazy.

It's got to be the age! My 4 year old DS is so whiny and mean too! He's been to his room twice today. I can't stand it any longer. Maybe we should get them together, hahaha! Our ears will be bleeding from all the whine.

I'm really hoping that today that was the issue, but she has been really whiny and bratty lately in general!

One warning and follow thru. If you say if you do X again, Y will happen. Make sure Y happens. Be prepared to walk out of a restaurant, leave a play date. I found not Ellington works bet with DS, but that doesn't always happen

Re: my 4 yo is being such a brat
ugh it's the age, and she's a girl i mean that in the best way possible! and believe me, i know! my DD just turned 5 and as much as i loved age 4 (SOOOOO much better than 3!!) she pulled some major attitude and tantrums that left/leave me speechless. so dramatic too! i really lose my patience with it too. it is really bad when she is tired. i have to get tough right back with her b/c i feel she is testing me. she spends a lot of time in her room. not a time out per se, but i remove her and put her in there and she HATES the isolation so it usually works. i ignore her crying and carrying on while she is in there. after that "solitary confinement" she is much better for the day. hang in there and good luck! 4 is a great age but has it's challenges too for sure. i don't think any age is a breeze though. my DD's only been 5 for 2 weeks and well, no major improvement yet! but i have hope!

great advice! i find this is so important to follow though. i have had to leave fun times/places b/c of behavior but it makes a point and helps me when i have to threaten her later at another time. she knows i'm not kidding around b/c i have followed through.

Re: my 4 yo is being such a brat
4 is my LEAST favorite age...ask any of my friends.....I thought the 2's were supposed to be bad...then the 3's ....nothing and then the 4's arrived and lord above it took every ounce of my strength to get through it BUT 5 came and back came by sweet little girl....6 came and still the same ....she is now 6 1/2 and a great kid....so my advice is to set boundaries...stick with them....breathe deep and know this too will pass and 5 will be SO much better
