Transitioning to Lactaid--stomach reaction?
WE had DS tested by an allergist (skin test) for the milk protein allergy. He has been on Neocate for the past year. The allergist test came back negative for a true mlik protein allergy (he said it's 98% acccurate). He felt my DS may have a lactose intolerance (so he has an intolerance to the lactose) because he vomited at 10M when we tried to give him yogurt.
We started him on Lactaid today (2 oz with 6oz of his regular fomula). He vomited a bit a few hours later. He has never vomited besides the time with the yogurt.
Now I'm confused.....there is no lactose but he is exposed to the mlik protein. We have to go get a blood test to know 100% about the mlik protein but could it be that he just needs to get used to this new stuff? TIA!

Lactose intolerance and a milk allergy are totally different. He is apparently still allergic to the milk protein.

Thanks......this is what I'm thinking too. Only the blood test will tell us 100%

We transitioned from Similac Sensitive to milk to Lactaid.
DS had no problems when we transitioned him to lactaid. since his issue was purely lactose. He would be up for hours at night screaming when he was drinking regular milk.

Allergy tests on toddlers are not accurate..Unfortunately... It is trial and error. My son was also allergic to soy and still is. No way to test for it really. Every time he has soy protein or soy flour, he vomits. Occasionally he will break out in hives...
Skin tests on infants are not recommended because they are usually wrong! A poopy diaper can show an allergy.

Thank you...it's so frustrating. And the ped is the one who recommended the allergy test before deciding what to transition to.

Just keep with the formula. My son was on it until 15 months. He transitioned to milk with no problems. Some kids just need a little extra time to outgrow the milk protein allergy
