Fear of Labor
Not sure if you ladies saw this recent stat, but fear of labor apparently causes it to last longer according to a study done in Norway...
LINK
“First, stressed women have higher stress hormones during pregnancy, and high stress hormones may weaken the power of the uterus to contract. And second, we think that women who fear childbirth may communicate in different ways with health care professionals during pregnancy” — perhaps delaying measures that could speed delivery.

Fear of Labor
Try not to be anxious about labor. I know it's tough. Try to just trust your body, your nurses, and doctors.

Re: Fear of Labor
I'd think it could be prolonged by fear of pushing too.
I don't know... I am not good with pain at all but I just know they need to come out some way, how how and its up to me.

Re: Fear of Labor
When I was in labor, I was so excited to finally meet our that all of my fears flew right away. Don't be scared. Easier said than done, I know, but I had a long labor followed by a cs and somehow wasn't scarred enough to get pregnant 7.5 months later

You don't realize it now, but you will go into instinct mode when you go into labor. That's what happened to me. I just concentrated on laboring and getting DS out that I never got to that point of anxiety. And I tend to be anxious about everything else. When the day comes, you'll be ready!

Agreed! I was so nervous at the end - and DD was 8 days late to add to the anxiety! But when my water broke - it was like 'go time' and I just kinda went with the flow. By the time pushing came around, I was ready!

you know what, why stress it? you cannot control it! stressing will get you nowhere fast and will accomplish nothing.
everyone gets through it. take it one minute at a time and just go with the flow. It may not be enjoyable but the end result is totally worth it!

That is my POV (um, TOO LATE NOW!!!)...I thought this study was strange since everyone's delivery is so independent and so many factors goes into why it takes however long it does. But I do think if you stress about it, it may make things worse.

Totally agreed. When I got random flashes of anxiety, I would imagine an auditorium full of people or the Belt Parkway a rush hour. All those people got her more or less the same way. If their moms could do it, so could I!
Read Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin or Baby Catcher by Peggy Vincent. Both are awesome books loaded with great birth stories. It'll be fine, mama!

Fear of Labor
I was terrified of labor/delivery so much so I wanted to stay pregnant and umcomfortable lol you just have to accept its gonna hurt but once LO is here all of it disappears... This was my first pregnancy and my labor/delivery was 5 hours! Only 20 min of pushing! So that study is bogus! Dont let it scare you! And epidural is your best friend!!!!

this exactly. do not sit there while pregnant and ponder what labor will be like. you will drive yourself nutty. when it happens...you will be living in teh moment and you wont have the time to sit there and think "oh hey im in labor, so this is what its like, oh i was supposed to feel this way etc". you just do what you have to do in the moment. you will be amazed at yourself when you are done and you look back and see how you handled it. if you think you wont handle it well, chances are you will be amazing when the time comes
