please tell me there is a light at the end of the tunnel...Formula allergy
DS is 13 weeks and on his 4th formula..this time allimentum for 2 weeks and still mucus/grainy and streaks of blood in every poop diaper....averages 4 a day.. Going to GI ped. on wednesday at LIJ to test for allergy...
What's next a prescription? Did anyone else not have luck with Allimentum? I thought it was milk free?
thanks...

Re: please tell me there is a light at the end of the tunnel...Formula allergy
When my DS was 8 weeks old he had blood in his poop and at least 5 runny poops a day. We tried Alimentum, which was was our third formual and it didn't work. We finally ended up with Elecare and it saved him. The next day we saw a difference in his poop and he was much happier. However since the elecare was so thin it made his reflux worst and we had to give him Zantac. We did not thinken the Elecare, but I seen other post were the doctors recommend to add cereal to it.
Good luck, I remember it was very stressful tried to find what formual works.

Thank you so much...DS is already on Pepcid for his reflux...I heard that the allergy/reflux go hand and hand.

Alimentum is still milk based and some babies do not respond to it. We ended up with Neocate(the other line of Elecare). Most do see "a new baby" after a few days. We did not, but went to a gastro and he really wasn't concerned. Just monitored him and blood in stool. Took about a month to get blood out of stool because I think he had a severe reaction to the milk.

We switched from allimentum to the nutramigen with the probiotic (enflora one - it has a guy on the can). It made a huge difference..blood stopped in about 11 days...

DS was on Nutramigen and Alumentim. Alumentim almost put him in the hospital.. He ended up on Elecare. It was a lifesaver. He had a milk protein and soy allergy. They go hand in hand. Your regular pedi can test for a MPA. It is just a poopy diaper. There is no test for soy though.. This went on until he was 8 weeks old or so.. He is now 2.5 y/0. He was on Elecare until 15 months. Had a little problem adjusting to milk. No allergy. He is still allergic to soy though!

nutramigen worked for DS. first and only formula I tried (besides the regular one, initially). ped. didnt even recommend trying soy as most kids with milk allergy are also allergic to soy. ds did not have blood in stool though, just mucus.
I hope you know UFT covers all this. I can help you with the process if needed. they were very helpful.

I def. anticipate a formula that will need to be covered by my UFT insurance..so thanks..I will be reaching out probably sooner than later...Going to GI tomorrow..hope to have some answers.

I asked my ped to test his stool and he said if i wanted it to be tested i should go to a GI...at first i was annoyed with him, be then realized it is prob. in DS best interest to see a specialist...I'm hoping they recc. a change..I can't take this anymore...thanks.

Re: please tell me there is a light at the end of the tunnel...Formula allergy
We took DS to the pedi GI after his reg pedi diagnosed him at 2 weeks with a MPSA. It was an easy test and I would have had to wait forever to get an appt with the GI. She didn't do anything different for him. Even with his reflux, it was easier to get an appt with the regular doctor and then they would contact each other and discuss what to do. After we got him on Elecare he was a new baby in about a week...
