Baby will be in bed with me.

I would probably get a bassinet or something, I have read that you shouldn't have a newborn sleeping in your bed because of SIDS

Are you keeping the baby with his/her crib in your bedroom

Im going to have a bassinet in my bedroom for a few months then shell go to her crib in her nursery...

Just fyi I would be really careful and research about baby in bed there are so many statistics, physicians and associations that have alarming rates for how many babies suffocate by accident because a parent rolls onto them or a parents arm or blanket covers their airway...

Actually the chances if SIDS is lower when the baby sleeps in bed with you. I think what you are referring to are newborns smothered by the parents or falling into the headboard of a bed which would not be SIDS.

I have successfully and safely slept with my 2 children and know I can safely do so with my third.

I am planning on putting the baby in the crib in his/her room.

Here's my thinking (although as a first timer, I reserve the right to change my mind Chat Icon )
- the baby's room is less than 5 feet away from the door to mine
-my bedroom doesn't have room for a crib/bassinet
-I think it will be better to not disturb DH while I am feeding during the night. I don't see the point in both of us loosing sleep if it's not necessary
-I also think it will be easier to nurse in the baby's room if I get a comfy chair and have the changing table set up - I can always carry the baby the 5 steps to my room if I want to lay in bed
-I want to avoid the bassinet to crib transition that some babies struggle with

not just sids but the baby can also roll off the bed.... that happened with my sisters kid. dh and I are SIDS worried though, I remember a classmate losing a sibling from it when I was little.

I was just about to write this. It can absolutely be done safely. SIDS can happen to a baby no matter where they're sleeping.

we are not getting a bassinet... we are putting our Chat Icon Chat Icon in a crib. They are going to share one crib for the first few months... until they start waking each other up. The only thing I have to decide is if we're putting one of the cribs in our room.. or if they're going straight into their room... their bedroom is literally a few feet away from mine. Im still nervous about it though.

Re: Are you keeping the baby with his/her crib in your bedroom

with my first 3 and with my next one, they stay with me in my room for the first few months.
This one doesnt have a choice b/c we are out of space- but either way, the first few months are with me. I dont want my other kids to be disturbed with the crying in the middle of the night and its also easier for me if the baby is right near by.
Everyone does things differently though, so you have to do what works best for you.

I am planning on EBF so baby will be in a PNP in our room, next to me first few months, also bc DD will be starting K in September just when the baby is born and I don't want him waking her up every time he cries. Makes things easier.
DD was in our BR first 3 months since I was EBF , then at 3mo we started naps in the crib in her room but at night she was with us, finally moved her to her room at 5 or 6 mo.

we are planning on putting our Chat Icon Chat Icon in one crib for the first few months then move them into separate cribs.

The cribs will be in our room for now until we move into a house!

Re: Are you keeping the baby with his/her crib in your bedroom

I'm torn on this as well. I'm considering keeping him in our room in the RNP for the first couple of weeks, but worry that I'll be setting myself up for a battle once it's time to transition to the crib.

I am not sure yet. I was thinking we might attempt straight to crib (in the baby's room) because our house is small so our bedrooms are just steps apart (and there is little room in our room that isn't taken up by our own furniture). But I do have a cosleeper mini brand bassinet on hand in case I change my mind or wind up preferring to or needing to have the baby in my room. We also don't have central air and the AC is better in our room so that may be a factor as well.

It's actually not that bad. IMO it was harder on me than it was on DD!

IDK yet, DH wants the babes in the room. Its not that I dont, its just that I am concerned about crib transitioning. We might compromise and just do it for the 1st month and then put the babes in the crib. Of course once he/she is here, I might change my mind.

This is my situation too. Im also concerned about the transition too. IDK what I'm gonna do. Can the baby sleep in a pack and play in our room? or do I have to get a bassinette??

I believe you could do either but due to a lack of space, we got the RNP & that's what our babes will be sleeping in.

The room that will the the nursery is so close to our room that I think I would like to just start our LO off in their own room. I am afriad of getting them used to a routine and then having to start over when we would then move them into their room eventually. I guess we shall see what I actually end up doing...

Gonna try our bedroom…have a bassinet and R-N-P. However I just worry about waking DH up all night. He is a deep sleeper but something tell me I am going to need to turn a little light on to change the diaper, etc. So we shall see!

Baby is staying with us for a while.. probably a year or so..
1. babys bedroom is upstairs, we are downstairs
2. we havethe room for teh crib in our room
3. i plan to bf. need thebaby near by
4. want to keep everything downstairs especially for a while until we can work on upstairs..
5.i canalwasy put up a screen or curtain if we feel we need privacy..

No matter what you do, it has to be theright decision for you and dh.. noone has the same situation. If my circumstances were different, then maybe baby wouldnt be with us.. but like someone said, this is my first, and i have a right to change my mind at any time..
