When did u bring your newborn out?

I know everyone is different & ESP first times moms tend to be mote cautious (like myself)... But when did u start bringing LO to stores, restaurants, etc? My Dr said to wait a while bc if little ones get sick & get a fever it's right to the hospital for lots of tests for them (this did happen to a friend of mine)
I've been bringing my 7 week old DD out in public to outside stuff but haven't brought her to any stores yet or inside restaurants.... Just wondering what other moms r doing

I had DD out pretty much right from the beginning. She was a summer baby so I wasn't as concerned. But right now there's a lot going around - coxsackie, fever virus, and I think a stomach bug. So I might be a little more cautious.

I waited until 7 weeks to bring her out (to stores) and I really didnt bring her many places. I got sick with a stomach bug when she was 8 weeks and it scared the crap out of me. She was fine though, now at 11 wks I bring her wherever. I'm a 1st time mom though

At 2 weeks! DS was a winter baby and I was not going to sit at home so I brought him just about everywhere. He went places way before shots and his shots were not going to keep him from getting a cold.

Each person is different. I have friends who still do not take their babies to places and they are 9 mons old.

Took DS to outdoor places early - like a week or two (he was a late-May baby). Bug netting over hs carrier, and no one touching or cooing or breathing on him, though.

Didn't take him to enclosed places till 8 weeks. No stores, no parties, none of that. Just wasn't worth it to me......I was terrified he'd catch something. My friend who is a nurse at my pediatrician put the fear of god in me about him catching something early on......it stuck with me.

With the twins, I waited until around 7 weeks. Then I started going to Target and the supermarket around 8am when no one was there.

With DS#3, probably around 2 weeks---but I kept him covered.

I had DS out pretty much right away. He was at the mall to take a picture with santa at 10 days I think.

I took DD out around 2 or 3 weeks but just for quick trips to places like the grocery store, nothing too long. My Ped said taking her out is fine as long as it's not a really crowded place. She said after 6 weeks you are in the clear but obviously still dont want to take them anywhere too crowded. She said the reason it's 6 weeks is b/c if they run a fever before then they cannot tell why so they automatically run all kinds of crazy tests like a spinal tap... scary. DD is now 6 weeks and we go out a few times a week to places like Target, etc. You need to get out of the house, it's good for you.

thanks for the responses ladies. I am feeling more comfotable with her now that she is almost 8 weeks & I though about bringing her to kohl's or target someplace during the day on a weekday when it wasnt so crowded. my friend's son was just sick (had a fever) at around 11 weeks & they sent him right to the hospital for tests/bloodwork. poor lil dude was like a pin cushion & my friend was a mess worrying.

I def take my DD outdoor places like fairs, outside restaurants, etc but thus far havent ventured into an INSIDE public place. but kohl's is calling my name! haha! Thanks again everyone!!!

When did u bring your newborn out?

From day 1 she was out in stores with us because we needed to go shopping and I just didn't want to sit inside all day long.

i took my son to family's homes at 10 days and out and about at 2 weeks but it was great weather - the end of may.

I followed the "rules". I was terrified not too. Plus, DS was born in February- flu season. I didn't take him anywhere til he was 2 months old and had his shots. We did go for walks outside on nice days.

Took my newborn to target at 5 days. I can't stay in the house with a toddler I'd go insane! I go out where ever I need to now and my dd just turned 3 weeks.

I didn't even read the responses but I know its super wide ranging.

For me, (I'm a one and done so its all first time for me!)
I took her out the day we got home from the hospital. I went to BRU to buy a monitor and stuff. She stayed in her carrier with a receiving blanket totally covering the carrier. HAHA I still remember I pulled the shade up a little from the back so she’d have air. LOL

Then by the time my Dad left which was about 5weeks later we were taking daily trips to the mall to walk. She was out to dinner with us within a week.

She stayed covered up and asleep. (god she was a great sleeper) Our hands were washed and sanitized before we reached in for her.

Meh.

Right from the start- but just a quick run into the supermarket or BRU.
She was born in summer so it wasn't flu season or anything and we kept the carrier covered and didn;t let anyone near her.

Our bigger issue with going out was her temperment.
She cried and screamed 24/7 so I was trapped home more because of that than a worry of germs.
It was NOT enjoyable to go anywhere- even on a walk- with a screaming baby.

Right from the beginning. Around 3 weeks we went to my mom's house and after 5 weeks we started going for walks (weather permitting). He was always in his stroller so being in stores was no big deal bc it's not like people were carrying him or getting too close to him, in the park - the same thing. Every mom is different so you need to go out when you feel comfortable doing so.

I started taking DS to stores, restaurants etc. pretty much right away. I would say within a week or two of his birth.

The day after I brought DD home, we had breakfast at Panera

DD was an April baby and I had her out right from the beginning.

Right from the beginning especially in the warm weather, why not. Take advantage, now at 8 months it gets harder to go out to eat bc he yells and wants to play all through out I am sure it will only get worse as he starts walking, talking etc.
