Did anyone have their baby at 37 weeks?

Hi, I'm having a Scheduled csection on July 23rd. Where I will be 37wks 3days. I'm so paranoid she will have to go to the nicu. Anyone have a baby this early and not have to go to the nicu? I'm so paranoid about her lungs not being mature! I need to stop googling ! Lol

I had DS at 37 weeks exactly. He went to the NICU, but ONLY as a precaution because I started running a fever during labor (resulting in an emergency c-section). He was absolutely fine.

I'm sure everything will be.fone but can I ask why your dr. scheduled it for 37 weeks? I thought ob's were not allowed to schedule a cs prior to 39 weeks.

My water unexpectedly broke and I had my baby at 37 weeks and three days. I also had a c section. Chat Icon was 100% fine. though it is a bit early, you're considered full term and it wasn't an issue at all for us. Best of luck!

i would trust your doctor since they have been monitoring you this entire time...but i would ask why 37 weeks instead of 39 weeks

I was wondering this, too...

But as others have said, Baby is full term at 37 weeks and would likely have gained only another pound and a half before 40 weeks, since babies tend to gain a half a pound a week in third tri.

same here... i was under the impression that doctors were not allowed to schedule CS earlier than 39 weeks unless absolutely medically necessary (which usually turns out to not be scheduled far in advance).

i wouldnt really worry about NICU with a 37 weeker, the baby will be large enough and be full term. if your doctor is willing to do a cs that early for whatever reason, you have to trust that the baby will be cooked enough.. they wouldn't schedule it that early if they thought the risk was higher to the baby than to you.

i delivered at 33w and my baby measured the size of a 31w and she spent almost a month in the NICU. as standard practice doctors will only deliver early if the complications are that in which it is safer for the mom and baby that the baby be outside rather than inside.

DD was born at 37 weeks and 3 days and she had no complications whatsoever!! The only issue was that she was 5 lbs 7 oz and the doctors warned us that is she went below 5 lbs she would not be allowed to leave the hospital when i was dicharged. DD never went below 5 lbs and was able to go home with me after 2 days.

Re: Did anyone have their baby at 37 weeks?

There's no way to guess. My cousin's oldest son was born 3 days late and had to go to the NICU for several days breathing issues; her SIL had twins at 34 weeks and they barely needed monitoring.

Chat Icon I hope everything is ok!!

Re: Did anyone have their baby at 37 weeks?

My DS was born at exactly 37 weeks.

My water broke and we tried naturally but he was a bit stubborn and I had a c section.

He was 100% fine and NICU was never even a thought.

I went into pre-term labor at 30 weeks, but luckily they were able to stop the contractions. My water wound up breaking at 37 weeks and the baby was 100% fine! No NICU or anything. He was about 7 1/2 pounds!

Of course you can ask..
I have 2 DS's already. My first son was an unplanned (going for reg delivery, wound up with a csection) a normal csection, everything was great. My second son was a scheduled csection, everything was fine until they went in. There were a lot of adhesions which in turn fused my uterus to the adhesions and my abdominal wall, because of this they had to get the baby out asap since when they cut to go into the uterus, they were there immediately - which when they cut - it was the opposite incision of my 1st csection, So NOW I have a plus sign on my uterus! One cut up and down and one cut across. Which poses an issue for this pregnancy because since there is so much scar tissue, and 2 incisions going different directions I am at a higher risk for a uterine rupture. So before they think I would go into labor on my own and have my uterus contract which could be deadly for myself and baby I was told they need to get her out. So that is why I am going so early. Truly there is a medical neccessety for it. One that could prevent fatality if I would go into labor on my own.

That makes so much sense! I would not be worried about delivering at 37 weeks. The baby is full term and it is what is best for you both.
