Showtime Cancels Weeds After This Season
Say goodbye to the Botwins. Showtime has confirmed that Weeds upcoming eighth season will be its last.
The dramedy, which premiered in 2005, not only boosted the careers of stars Mary-Louise Parker, Hunter Parrish and Alexander Gould, but was crucial to Showtime's growth as a premium cable network.
"There were two shows, Weeds and Dexter, that really got Showtime taken seriously for cutting-edge original programming," Showtime entertainment president David Nevins told Entertainment Weekly, who first reported the news. "How they get brought home is really important. In this case, both for the sake of the two women behind the show [series creator Jenji Kohan and Parker] and an audience that's really invested in the show. TV fans love nothing better to complain about how shows end and we really want to end this one the right way."
Kohan is mum on how she'll end the dysfunctional saga of the Botwins, led by pot-selling matriarch Nancy (Parker). What is known: The final season will return to where it all began — the suburbs! Fans can also expect Kohan to wrap up last season's assassination attempt cliff-hanger before a time jump lands Nancy back in the world of white picket fences and freshly cut grass.

i thought it was ending a couple season ago; so Im not surprised. I love this show but I think its probably time to end it!

I watched this series on netflix so I'm stuck at the end of season 6. I feel like each season starts off a little slow and by the last episode I can't get enough.

I'm glad we're not ending on the cliff hanger and glad we're going back to the suburbs (the show was so much better when it really was about a suburban mom selling drugs to support her kids), but I think it's time for it to end. It's run its course. They've escalated as much as they can escalate. I'll miss the characters, but it's really done.
I feel like that;s the problem with today's shows, they just keep pushing the nevelope and getting more extreme untl there's nowhere else to go. I'd find it much more interesting as a character study.
The Big C is kind of going in that direction,too.

I am actually pretty happy about the news. While I keep watching, I don't think I've really enjoyed the show since they left Agrestic.

I'm glad last season wasn't the last just because of the way the season finale ended. I really miss the first few seasons of this show and the "little boxes" theme song! It's gotten so over the top, I kind of hope its comes full circle, and it ends almost how it began....if that makes sense!

For me it did!
Actually, same here. I am randomly forced to watch an episode here and there. My friend has stopped though since they whole time I'm just asking her a zillion questions "Wait, so she's a lesbian now?!" "Are they in Mexico?" "She's banging her brother-in-law?" "Did he just shoot someone?" 
ETA: And those are ALL legit questions I have asked!

Same here.
Yeah. I feel like the whole pull of the show ahd to do with her in Agrestic. I also miss the theme song. I've kept watching it "just because"
