daycare- variable hours?
Just was wondering if anyone may know this- do daycares accept kids on a variable schedule? I would need coverage for 1-2 hours a day (sometimes longer), anywhere from 3-5 days a week. TIA!

Re: daycare- variable hours?
My daycare and the ones I visited durign selection would not do such short periods of time.
Mine has a drop off time. All kids have to be dropped off by a certain time. I mean I guess you could pick up within a few hrs of that drop off time. But all the ones I saw you paid by the day so you would still be payign for the day no matter how long they were there.

Re: daycare- variable hours?
Most places only take children who are full time. Where I send DS and 1 other place we looked at allowed part time, as in a few days a week, but we never discussed by the hour. Most likely you would still have to pay for the full day, just drop off and pick up when you need to.
If you only need a few hours a week, I would look into a sitter coming to you. Have you thought about sitter city?

Re: daycare- variable hours?
My daycare lets you vary the days you send them and the number of days per week but you pay for a full day no matter how long you are planning on sending them that day. There is no hourly rates.
It's just- this much- per day. Whether they go 2 hours or 12

Same with mine. I send DS 3x a week and our friends send their DD 4x. My DS is there more total hours but, they pay more since their DD is there more days.

Thanks, yeah I guess I have to look into this. DH and I work opposite schedules so I would just need coverage from when I leave for work until he gets home (or longer if he is working OT). Good to have this info though before I started to call places!

Re: daycare- variable hours?
I was looking for by the hour too, and was told by every center that it's not possible. Something about funding issues. An at-home daycare owner was willing to do half days so maybe look into that; we just decided a center was better for us. Also, if you're looking for a short time frame every day, what about a baby sitter? Just some ideas. Good luck!
