Baby name quetison: Are Gianna/Giovanna getting really popular around here?
I love the name Gianna but I'm not into super popular names (DDs name is very uncommon). I don't know if I'm just noticing it more becuase I'm considering it or if it is just really popular in the LI area. I know it's not top 10 in the national list but I feel like for LI it might be, at least going by how often I hear it. Do you know many little Gianna/Giovannas?

I do not know any Giovanna's, but I know 3 Gianna's under the age of 6.
ETA: I feel like all my friends know at least one Gianna too. It's a beautiful name, but I feel it is popular here on LI. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't use it though!

I have heard of Gianna's but not Giovannas.. still I don't think its TOO popular. My sister named my niece Emma and I know there are a LOT of Emma's..

I know 2 babies named Gianna off the top of my head and a Giovanna. That wouldnt stop me from using it though.

Gianna is VERY popular. It was on our girl list but were turned off by how many times we heard the name while I was pregnant.
At my DS's christening there were two Giovanna's, we live in an area where there are A LOT of Italian-Americans so I think this could have a lot to do with it, in other neighborhoods I would guess Giovanna is not as common

gianna is very popular now. Giovanna, not so much but I do have friends with girls that have both names.

There is a Gianna in DD's daycare room (infant). I do hear the name here and there. I don't know any Giovanna's.
ETA- I just did a search for name popularity by state. Here is a link to SS for NYS. link Gianna was ranked # 18 for 2011.

iknow both.. very italian.. A friend ofmine just named her daughter gianna.. ive alwasy loved that name.. it is my second choice if we have a girl.. i know a few giovanna who are all older (mid to late twenties). we call them all joanna..

I know a number of young Giannas through friends and DS daycare class but the only Giovanna I know was a girl from high school.

DD's name is Gianna. It's s funny because when we first decided on the name- I thought it was very rare. But it seems everyone I talk to knows a couple of kids named Gianna.

I know a few Giannas under the age of 3. Very popular.
I know three Giovannas but they are all over 25 and 2 of the 3 go by " Joanne" instead. ETA - They didn't like their name being butchered. Some people would call them GIO-vanna and other JOVANNA.

Not so much with Giovanna. That's less common (and still very pretty!)

Same here. It's my DD's name too. I didn't realize when we named her that it was becoming so popular.

I know a Lot of girls named Giovanna and Gianna. But my DH's family is Sicilian and family tradition has the name being passed around a Lot.
I love the name Giovanna. I think it is less common than Gianna. I wanted to name DD Giovanna but too many in the family.
One cousin named her DD Giovanella. Very pretty variation.
We named DD Giuliana.

I think Gianna is very popular. I know of at least 5 people who named there daughter Gianna in the past few years. I only know of 1 Giovanna.

Thanks ladies. I'm so torn becuase I really love Gianna and it goes great with DD's name but I just wish it weren't so popular. Right now (SUPER early but I'm the type who has to make these decisions early or it drives me nuts) I'm thinking we'll still go with it just becuase I love it so much and DH likes it too.

Gianna is SUPER popular
I know of 4 under the age of 7
I know one Giovanna under the age of 5
A friend of mine is a kindergarten teacher and she said she's had at least 7 little girls's named Gianna in her class the last 3 years.

I know alot of Giannas. My co workers daughters name is Giavanna. I love both of the names though. Popularity is one thing that never bothered me.
